One of the great stories of all time - gets another shot. Looks gorgeous

It looks awesome. We'll see if they can get it right this time. The Frank Hebert Dune books are some of my favorites. I wonder how far they'll go if this becomes a successful series. I don't know how you do book 4 as a movie.

Yeah it gets pretty nutty as it goes. I read them all; well all that Frank wrote.

I do love the David Lynch version just for the Lynch-factor but it's not a great telling of the story.

I read some of the Brian Herbert stuff. I'm glad he finished the story, but there was a definite drop off in quality. Still, I could see them trying to do the Butlerian Jihad trilogy. They'll kind of have to if they want to go past Children of Dune and not completely rewrite the ending.

The Lynch movie is a hot mess. Aesthetically it nails the look and feel of the story. But it's not very true to the narrative and has a number of OMG WTF moments in it. That hasn't stopped me from watching every extended cut they put out though.

The inner dialogue of the story is a challenge for any film maker
That and all of the expositional world building stuff. There aren't any real visual ways for explaining the Bene Gesserit religion priming/evangelizing or the eugenic blood line stuff either in the book. I guess they could always bring in the narrator from Lebowski for the inner monologue moments.

Did a little reading and got the impression that this is Part 1 of a two-parter.

I don't know how it'd be possible to even begin to fit that story into one movie.

Did you watch the early 2000's Dune/Children of Dune mini-series?

I'm pumped

Same. I think Dune is finally going to get the high quality film adaptation it deserves.

September and October are shaping up to be great months for classic science fiction fans. Dune in October plus Apple's tv adaptation of Foundation later this month.

A remake that most likely will be a improvement because the movie has a coherent story.

The original Dune movie I recall is criticized as a terrible movie because the movie is very incoherent.
