I think UT is planning on saving the scholarship until 2010. I think we are in on a lot of big time players in 2010 and don't view Scott as a can't miss prospect or a need and believe we could get someone like that in 2010. He would just be a luxury to add on next year. Just my opinion...

Casey Mitchell is the only possible 2009 unless someone big shows up IMO. I think they would rather have a JUCO and with the big time recruits we are in on for 2010, I think it makes a lot of sense.

who all are we in for in 2010? i know we got Selby and McRea. I hope some post players because by that time we will be getting really thin

Sykes (very possible) good chance he ends up a 5*
Joe Jackson
Payne
Roscoe Smith

the list goes on. There are probably 8 other players (including a lot of post that we need) that are interested in UT.

I think we have 0 scholarships left for '09 - it's not a matter of holding one for '10. We are using all 13 this year (first time under Pearl). Childress is the only senior, and it's a given that Tyler will turn pro. Kenny Hall and Casey Mitchell (JUCO) are getting their scholarships. That leaves 0. Unless Hopson has a monster year and bolts, we couldn't take Durand Scott anyway.

Joe Jackson is NOT coming to Knoxville. Everyone get over it.

I don't think its a definite that we get Mitchell yet is it?

If a player is good enough, you make room.

I still think it is a possibility. Memphis could easily land a big time PG that scares him off and then UT moves into first place. Who knows what will happen but people have doubted Pearl before and he doesn't get beat out that often... obviously right now, he is a Memphis lean.

Chism and Hopson could bolt based on team and individual production. It is not a likely scenario, but can't be dismissed either. West is running through a problem that may not go his/UT's way. Depth may create lack of playing time for cerain players that may want to transfer. There are too many cases to be made about this to accurately predict what UT may or may not be able to offer come Spring/Summer.

As of this post, there is a dearth of talent at the PG/combo G position at or coming to UT. As of right now, Jackson is not coming to UT. Pearl hasn't gotten a non-transfer Memphis kid yet, and I'm not complaining about that one bit. He and his staff can recruit other talented areas of the country without having to win the "in-state" kids.

Chism is probably gone if he has a pretty good year. He made a mistake last year (well mistake imo) by testing the NBA waters and seeing where he'd be. You can only do that twice and the second time you can't come back. So I'm assuming he wants to leave after this year since he tested his draft status last year.

Selby can easily play the 2 and Craft will not scare off Joe Jackson. Again, I don't think it is likely but I am not ruling it out until he signs his LOI. I think he likes us a lot but he likes Memphis even more. Obviously, signing Sykes would make it a lot less likely but we would still make room if Jackson wanted to commit IMO.

We are in on a lot of good post players and I really think that Pearl is thinking we should take two post in 2010 instead of one so he is sort of holding the scholly now (or giving it to Mitchell if he wants to commit). I completely agree with that mindset but I could be wrong about the whole situation as well.
