All-Southeastern Conference running back Mike Dyer's Auburn career is over.

Dyer was granted a conditional release Thursday by Auburn head coach Gene Chizik, knowledgeable sources told Auburn Undercover. He was released for specific schools, one of which is Arkansas State, where former Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has taken over as head coach.

I didn't understand the Malzhan thing, my first thought was is there something he knows about the future of the Auburn program. Dyer leaving now makes me scratch my head even harder.

Doesn't really make sense but I haven't been able to follow football as much this year with work. Does anyone have info I may not know about?

I assumed he was in some kind of trouble, since he didn't play in the bowl game, but I haven't been following it closely.

Hugh Freeze just proved that Arkansas State is a fine springboard to an SEC job.

If Auburn falls off offensively next year it will be to the benefit of Gus.

Dyer should tear up his new conference (where a couple future NFL players transfered with Taggart up at WKU) and get to the league.

My thoughts exactly...

What impact will this have on the Auburn offense next season? Not that I really care about Auburn, just trying to pass time until we hear word on Shannon hire.

Same here. Last I heard was he had a plan set in front of him, that if he completed it he would return.

Wait, a MAC school wasn't good enough for Arnett who proved nothing, but a proven SEC running back is being allowed to go to Arkansas State and I'm sure not high profile schools, but Dooley looked like an ass. Don't give me the Arnett wants to be near his family thing because he also asked to have Notre Dame as one of the schools, which isn't near his home in Michigan. He just wanted out.

Not sure if rumor is true.. but I wouldn't be surprised. The only reason MD went to Auburn was because of CGM.

CGM was the hottest thing in AR once he took the job with Nutt at UA and was able to land the "Springdale 5." Unfortunately, Nutt didn't like the diversion of attention and CGM was thrown under the bus. CGM has great relationships with all of the coaches in AR and kids across the state want to play for him. I expect that he will do well at ASU because a lot of the non-BCS talent will go to play in state instead of opting for out-of-state schools.
