Dylan Sampson, RB, Tennessee
  • Sampson rushed for a career-high 131 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown as Tennessee dominated Vanderbilt, 56-0, for its first 10-win regular season since 2003.
  • It was Sampson's first career 100-yard game as he averaged 10.9 yards per carry.
  • A total of 118 of his 131 yards came after contact according to PFF.
  • Sampson's score came as he broke a tackle and dashed 80-yards in the fourth quarter.
  • That represented the second-longest rush by a freshman in UT single-game history behind only Eric Gray's 94-yard run vs. Vanderbilt in 2019.

He should really try and play LB. From what I've seen, he's not a natural back and certainly doesn't have break away speed, but may become a fast LB. We've transitioned RB's to LB's in the past with great success.

While I don't disagree with you wholesale, it may not be a good idea. Trying to fire a Winchester 54 with a Federal 12 gauge shell in the chamber doesn't work. Besides, when something isn't broke, best not to fix it.

Watching his 4th quarter TD, you could hear the echoes, "Sampson left side handoff, breaks a tackle, plenty of running room . . . Bill he may run all the way to Brentwood, it's a foot race . . . 45, 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, 5 4 3 2 1, Touchdown TENNESSEE, 80 yards, Dylan Sampson, on an absolute romp through the Vanderbilt defense, it is 55 to nothing in a driving rain and the flood gates just broke wide open."

Good call. You have my vote for our next radio announcer . 👍

Best back on the roster
I think that's Wright.

Sampson may catch him next year, but Wright has given us some power run game along with being able to house it. Very little wiggle with Wright. Not the best receiver either.

By late next year...could definitely see Sampson being RB1

With his size I was hoping we might have a decent short yardage guy for next year, since Fant will be gone. Seems I read once that he's good in QB protection too. Something the bigger young guys coming in take time to develop.

I was most impressed with a play in the first half (can’t remember exactly when) where Vandy was showing blitz from the left side, only to drop that guy and blitz a LB from the right side. He diagnosed it quickly and laid a lick on the blitzer, allowing Milton to comfortably get the pass off. For most of the season he’s been lost in pass protection, so this was really good to see. His talent as a runner is obvious and I’m excited he’s on our team.

Sampson has averaged 6.8 yards a carry on the season. I think someone famous once said" just give him the damn ball"
Might want to add after he learns to keep our QB from getting his head knocked off.

Had an amazing block to protect Milton early in the Vandy game on a 4th Down I believe. It was a phenomenal block. Hopefully he has learned and can do that consistently now
