This year's team may be an improvement over last years' team. Mashak is better offensively. Estrella is going to be better if he gets healthy. Dubar looks like a really good player. When Phillips lets the game come to him, he is going to be good.

Phillips is going to replace some of the missing Awaka production. He might even have his best games when he’s in foul trouble. Cause he’s gonna be all over the place around loose balls and rebounds.

You are comparing 3 people who are starting for us this year vs 3 people 2 of which didn't play together often. I think a better comparison would be if people would rather JJJ, Knecht, and Aidoo vs Lanier, Igor, and Okpara

Weird comparison as they dont match up in roles. Also very heck no. Awaka was the backup the proper person in that comparison would be JJJ. You could make the argument that thus far Okpara>=Aidoo. Milicic>JJJ but DK is leagues ahead of Lanier. I would say that we came out of the whole thing a lot less far behind than most would have thought. So far all the transfers that have played have been with Dubar getting a mulligan for now.

I think the exciting thing for this season, for me at least., is the fact that Estrealla and Phillips have progressed a ton. I mean history tells us Barnes players will progress if they stick with it almost always. I just felt like those guys were so far behind last year. This seasons results so far have me so excited for the next 2-3 years until Barnes retires.

I’m excited about the potential of this team, but I’m hesitant to say we’re better than last year yet. I also think better is going to be hard to judge because I think the SEC is getting better every year and is looking to be really deep this year. So wins may be a lot harder to come by.

Agree. I think conference road wins will be hard to come by.

As Miličić becomes more confident taking those available threes, I think his contribution overlaps more of JJJ's game.

Good to see us get natural scorers who know when they come and play for Barnes they have to lock in and get better at D or they won’t play. I think that culls the herd some on transfers. Easier to become good on D because it’s more of a mindset, vs natural shooters many times either have it or don’t.

Okpara needs to learn to catch the ball and once he has his hands on it, keep it above the shoulders. He gets it knocked free too often.

To be fair, he was usually guarding someone 3-4 inches taller.

Will probably help him to be playing more zone with a true tall center playing the 5 spot.

I really enjoyed watching Phillips slam a 2 hand slam dunk off the back of the rim and send it soaring into the night!
