Watching the East Carolina/Evansville Game - To see whom Tennessee will play in Super Regional.

In the Top of the 5th inning, it looks like a line Drive was caught by Evansville. But he caught it with the Glove on the ground in the dirt of the infield.
The infield official didn't rule it as an out. The Bases were loaded, second base runner stopped and ran back to second, because he thought it was caught.

It should have been a Triple play. As Player that caught the ball tagged 2nd base. 3rd base never tagged third base and ran home. all they had to do is throw it to third base for the Third out.

They didn't show a replay, But the announcer's said they can't challenge if he caught it. (I assume because it was in the Infield?)

I thought the Infield rule, only came in effect on pop ups, not line drives.

East Carolina ended up scoring 3 runs in the inning.

I am definitely pulling for Evansville now, because I feel they got robbed.

If you watch close, the ump at second signaled safe, which means no catch. The SS then steps on the bag for an out, then the tag on the runner going to third was out #2.

I couldn’t tell if he caught it or not from the replay. TV guys said they thought he didn’t catch it.

It was the right call based on the ump signaling no catch. It would have helped everyone if the ump yelled no catch because it was close and clearly neither team knew for sure.

Didnt UT get caught up in a similar play a while back? Might have been CMo stuck and not sure to tag or go forward.

Just find it odd, that they can't review if he caught it or not.
Do they review any catches?

But Evansville Got it done.
Hopefully their pitchers will still be tired out, when they play us.

The problem with a review is it's similar to inadvertent whistle, once the call has been made (even if wrong) runners and fielders are acting off the call, not like a bang bang at first
