In the Knoxville area...

I've got a 2000 Honda Accord that's a daily driver in great working condition. Over the past 4 years the paint job on the car has gotten exponentially worse, especially the roof. It's got the bubbly, clear coat mostly gone, ghetto look to it. I'm wanting to do something about it now before it gets to the point of completely coming off and ultimately leading to rusting. I'm open to ideas and suggestions for a complete paint job, or touch up, or something. Obviously it's old so I'm not looking to sink too much into it.

Maaco used to just do a spray job pretty cheap. Not sure anymore.

I just got rid of my Honda because of the same issue. My understanding is that Honda and Mazda are the most notorious for the clear coat coming off due to the process they use. They supposedly don't apply as many coats as the other major car companies to save on costs.

You might try taking it to a vocational school.

Earl Shives (sp) use to paint for $99.
Not sure they still exist, though.

Most all body shops are into insurance jobs now due to big money and a guaranteed pay day.

You will probably have to find a custom shop. On the cheap, anymore, usually means you do the prep and they shoot it.

Going back with the same color?

I know Honda has this issue, I haven't seen it so much from modern Mazdas. The older ones 1980-2000, they certainly didn't have the best paint. I know the Mazdas had rust issues in the northeast and Canada.

As far as repainting goes, you get what you pay for. Paintwork is expensive for a reason, it is very labor intensive. Out behind the dealership I work at is econo paint. I'm sure they can get ya done cheaply.
