This article summarizes some of the reasons Eddie Gran has been one of my favorite coaches.
For Sydney: Gran's biggest recruit was daughter GoVolsXtra

Quick update for Volnation on Coach Gran and how he has done this year. It was hilarious to read some of the guys on the board say that Jimbo was going to fail. They are in it with Va Tech right now for the ACC championship but with the way they handled Miami and Florida, the recruiting class should finish up VERY strong this year.

As far as coaching, the RBs at FSU have done a bit better this year than last year, and last year they had quite a rushing offense.

As far as recruiting, they currently have the 5th ranked class on Rivals with only 19 commits.

Devonta Freeman - Yahoo! Sports

This 5'9 180 4 star from Miami is one of his guys.

James Wilder Jr. - Yahoo! Sports

James Wilder Jr who we would love have starting at LB for us next year, may be the starting RB at FSU.

Gran has 4 4 star players at this point:
Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2011 Florida St. Commitments

He is still on some others like 4 star Marcus Roberson.

Lonnie Pryor and Chris Thompson were both 4 star RB recruits in the 2009 class, so he has some talent to work with at the position. Wilder will not have to start, but he could have an impact like Lattimore did for Spurrier this year.

If a kid is going to stay in state, we do not want all of them going to Florida and it is helpful to Tennessee to have a strong Florida State. If a kid is leaving the state, I think Coach Gran would have plenty of nice things to say about Knoxville and a Tennessee program that does not have Orgeron and Kiffin.

I may be wrong, but I just don't see any coach gushing over another program when it comes to losing recruits....

Wish Gran was still at UT. I think he left because he didn't like the way Kiffin run things. I know he was from the Florida area. He is a good pick up for Florida St. Florida St being better alone with Miami then all the kids do not go to Florida. Urban been racking up on recruits from the state of Florida.

A coach when talking to HS coaches etc will negative recruit real hard against some schools and not as much against another. No Auburn coach will ever say anything positive about Alabama, but if an Auburn coach had a kid who said, I am not coming but I think it is between South Carolina or Clemson, you can bet they would say nice things about Dabo way before they would compliment Spurrier.

I had no idea he'd been through such an ordeal. Jesus that would suck. Can't imagine being in that situation.

Didn't Turner Gill beat the defending ACC Champs? He must be pretty awesome.

I wonder what Eddie Grans thoughts were on not playing Poole, perhaps one of the things he clashed with Kiffin on was Kiffin wanting to play his boy Brown but Gran knew what Poole could do.....surely he did, he has been around RBs enough.

Anyone have any insight on this?

Date Opponent Time/Result
Sep 4 North Dakota State Lost 3-6
Sep 11 Georgia Tech Won 28-25
Sep 17 @Southern Miss Lost 16-31
Sep 25 New Mexico St. Won 42-16
Oct 2 @Baylor Lost 7-55
Oct 14 Kansas St. Lost 7-59
Oct 23 Texas A&M Lost 10-45
Oct 30 @Iowa St. Lost 16-28
Nov 6 Colorado Won 52-45
Nov 13 @Nebraska Lost 3-20
Nov 20 Oklahoma St. Lost 14-48
Nov 27 @Missouri Lost 7-35

Nope. His 10 pm curfew did not work. His team quit on him and they looked like absolute dog crap losing over and over to horrible teams. New Mexico St. dominating them could be the worst loss for almost all D 1 teams, but nope, they managed to lose to North Dakota State.

Eddie was first class, I was really sad to see him go. I wish he could have given us some decent recruits here before he bolted. I was one of the guys who thought Jimbo would be a massive fail at FSU. Things seem to be on the upward swing there though....good for Eddie.

USA today called him a homerun hire, and he was the biggest flop of the season. He is going to last 2-3 years tops.

He got all that attention becaUse he is black and the NAACP folks thought he wasn't getting his fair shot to be a major program HC. And then his first game he loses to a 1-aa team. Maybe there was a different reason besides color he didn't get his shot. Crazy, I know

He did pretty well in Buffalo - I wouldn't have predicted some of those loses this year.

Oh wow. How enlightening. I had no idea. My previous post was 100% serious.

I'm trying to figure out how beating New Mexico State by 26 points is "getting dominated" by them. Reading is fundamental, but apparently not easy.

Thanks for stopping in.

Also thanks for saying after they beat Ga Tech that Gill had Kansas turned around.

As good as your predictions about Goins, Maymon, the teams you write about in your blog etc.

Would love if you would show back up in the UNLV thread and explain again how Lon Kruger has the 5th best job in the Mountain West...

He made some comments once on the Douche Bag show that he made the decision to play Brown over Poole and that some things that had happened since that time confirmed his decision (I can't remember if it was before or after Poole's blow up that he said this). I wouldn't expect him to say anything else even if Kiffin undercut him but that was all I ever heard from him on the topic. Maybe someone else has some inside info.

Yeah, I couldn't recall if I ever had heard him mention the RB depth chart and touched on why Poole didn't play more after looking so good in the spring, especially given that - if memory serves me correctly - Bryce Brown had some injuries pile up on him throughout the season.
