What could this country do to improve our school systems, since our government doesn't seem to know how to do it with BILLIONS of dollars???

Well in 1994 we were told a certain party was about ending the federal Dept of Education. But then came a President in 2000 who not only did NOT get rid of it but added to it with the No Child Left Behind bill. It seems unfunded mandates with more holes than Swiss cheese is the way to go now.

Very accurate assessment Dizz. It was all done in the name of politics. Bush was showing the world that he and Kennedy could collaborate.

When you couple that with the fact that what we call education now is simply preparation for standardized testing, we are in a world of hurt.

Yep. Prep those kids to only learn what is required to pass those standardized tests so we can say "look at how high the numbers are". In the education discussion as a whole, the only time you hear the stories is when GA moves from 50th to 49th in SAT rankings or some other test scores and nothing else.
