I know Bama is our longest traditional rival but he is a staple of their football program. Anyone know why he was pushed out?

He said he didn’t retire. Was let go.

Speculation is that he wanted to do home games only. Which is was he did last year while recovering. University wasn't interested in doing that again

He missed all of the 2022 season because he got cancer and (I think) only called home games for them last year. He also had a very odd exit from calling NASCAR races a few years ago supposedly caused by him creeping a girl out via social media. I think the guy who replaced him is pretty liked; maybe they just wanted to move on to a younger, healthier guy who could reliably call every game.

He was there for a very long time, so who am I to say this, but him calling Alabama games was always such a weird fit to me being from NYC. NASCAR too. That's kind of a messy-sounding exit for a guy who was there for so long.

I can't remember how I stumbled on it, but Bama had (I think) a booth cam going showing the crew broadcasting the game. Kind of interesting to see them "in action". Spotters doing their part. I thought that was cool. Would love to have watched Ward calling a game.

Could be the New Coach had his favorite. No bones about it, he was let go if that tweet is real. And interestingly, if it was amicable, it seems he'd take the high road and say he retired. He's NOT doing that so that means he's ticked off.

After being spoiled by John Ward, Eli was fingernails on the chalkboard for me. My Bama friends think he was the John Ward of Bama. No comparison.
I’m biased, but those 2 are not remotely in the same league. Not even close. John Ward was an artist. Eli had an irritating voice, did call the action well, but wasn’t the easiest to listen to.

Hated his nasely NY voice. Apparently he was off alot this past season in his broadcasts and attention to details and of course his cancer battle and missing all of the 22 season it makes sense that they decided to move on from him. It’s a new era at Bama

I really liked him calling NASCAR.
