Assistant head coach Ellis Johnson is expected to be named the head football coach at Southern Miss in the next 24 hours. Johnson, who interviewed in Atlanta, Ga. for the position on December 15, was offered the job on Monday and accepted the position while in Hattiesburg, Mis

The worst-kept secret in Mississippi. This was in the making before Fedora left and Jay Graham moved to Tennessee. Makes me wonder what's going on over at South Carolina...

For replacements, Mike Stoops and Vic Koening are the two most frequent names being thrown around early, along with Lorenzo Ward taking the official D coordinator role to go along with the title.

Koenning appears to be taking the UNC job so who knows on that, but Stoops has previously worked under Spurrier and also hired Spurrier Jr. so a strong connection there.

President saunders has sent an email saying a big announcment for golden eagle football today at 4 pm. They will name either ellis johnson or blake anderson as HC! Pray its anderson! But i know it will be johnson

Looks as though the ol' ball coach will be looking for a Defensive Coordinator.

Official. Ellis johnson named head coach. Just left the press conference. Very quiet and reserved. Seemed very emotional and glad to be back. He got his lifetime contract. Think he just won me over.

Knew it was gonna be Johnson. Just a great institutional fit. From his presser, I get the feeling he'll try to keep every offensive staff member he can.

Lol @ cockytalk. Some of those folks are seriously out there. They have been delusional for years. Some think he should stay at USCjr & coach the bowl game & he is crapping on his players by not doing so. Has a coach ever accepted a head coaching position & then coach the team he's leaving as an assistant 2 weeks later? Guess he should try to recruit some guys to USCjr too.

If he can keep blake anderson i might just hug his neck. Gonna be hard to though
