Okay, so the game last night was difficult to watch. Some call it embarrassing, some say lack of effort, some call it lack of execution. Whatever it was, it was hard to see and difficult to digest. However, I’ve seen several posts that said we can’t beat Florida in football or basketball. Aside from last night, Tennessee had won the last 5 of 6 meetings. Some say we shouldn’t be ranked. Who are the 25 teams they would rank ahead of us?

I’ve also seen numerous other comments that, to me, suggest a lack of knowledge of college basketball. It’s great to have opinions, but some of the things posted are just crazy. Think before you hit the send button. Do some research before you speak. Basketball and baseball are built on the body of work during the course of a lot of games, and football....not so much.

Finally, this Tennessee team is talented with a blend of experience and youth. Bad games happen, and last night pretty much everyone played poorly, and hence, the score that we saw. They will learn from this, and ultimately, they will get better from last night’s beat down. We have some really good kids who love Tennessee and who will, overall, have a very good season. Support them, realize perfection is not the norm, and look at the positives. Barnes will use this to make changes and to grow from this. I still believe this team is very good, and if the pieces to the puzzle fall in place, they have the potential to be special.

Go Vols.

To the points being made here, Tennessee had a 4 game winning streak against Florida in basketball going into that game. Last year we beat them in Knoxville when they were the better team on paper. It happens in hoops. That being said. This was a dreadful performance that seemingly came out of nowhere. Was this the worst loss of a Rick Barnes coached Tennessee team? If it wasn't, it had to be close to it.

Worst effort by a Rick Barnes team since he has been at Tennessee. IMO

I love Vescovi, but he isn't a true point guard and that's what this team is missing. Throw Jordan Bone or Kennedy Chandler on this team, and we get to that next level. We're going to have to hope we get hot and stay hot to win games in the tournament. This team folds when we get down 7-10.

He is a sg and cannot shoot anything other than a set shot! love him and he should continue to play because he can hit the 3 setting!

I agree. Not saying he shouldn't be playing. He's just not a true PG and definitely not the type of PG Barnes typically wants to run his system. He's the best shooter on the team.

Grant/Admiral will always be first mentioned 17-19 teams but the contribution of Bone those years was really the key.

Take it for what it is; A bad night. A loss to learn from, adjust, and improve. And for heaven's sakes? Quit calling them kids.

He does hit shots besides a set shot. If you think otherwise then you haven’t watched closely.
You are mostly wrong but i know you already know give me the stat! I watch every game but did bail last night but Mrs velosi! Some layups but seldom jump shots!

I am none wrong. He does hit shots besides set shots which you said he didn’t which was wrong. If you had said he’s predominantly a set shooter then you would have been right.

Aside from missing a true PG, the lack of physicality down low is going to hurt us all year long. Pons and Fulk have got to get more aggressive in the paint.

We’re pretty small inside as well. Florida muscled is around

Don't agree on the point guard assessment. Fulky and Pons aren't hitting the shots they hit last year. With no inside game our offense stagnates. Both those guys should get into a groove at some point. If they do, we'll be hard to beat.

They were flat. Their body language did not appear to the be same, seemed off. We have seen them play at a high level and intensity. I am concerned about them when they get down and how they handle that. Hoping Springer is back tonight and the focused team. Mizzou will provide a better challenge then the first game. I hope none of this football crap is spilling over to B-ball team mentally.

It’s not just Vescovi. Offense doesn’t run well with JJJ or Keon or Springer at PG either. Too many guys aren’t hitting open shots. That’s the problem.
