We have a bad football team. We knew that coming in. Yes, Butch gave Peterman a fair shot at running the offense. By now, he knows as well as anybody that it was a mistake. Should he have pulled him earlier? Yep, I think he knows that too. But we weren't out of the game at 17-7 when Worley returned. The QB position didn't lose this game by itself. There were numerous dropped passes, failed blocking by this allegedly good offensive line, and missed tackles and blown coverage assignments by the defensive backfield.

Here it is, Vol fans. Our OL is incapable of getting low and run blocking. Hasn't in years. Added to that, there isn't a UT RB who can break an initial tackle. NO running game against Fla is a loss waiting to happen. Because we can't run, we can't throw either. Added to that, we have no proven QB who has shown a knack for making a play on his own.

When a team runs wide, we can't get off their blocks. Our defensive backfield isn't just slow, but they approach a tackle like Peter Pan.

We need good football players. We don't need another coach. We need our young players who will keep learning and getting better.

What we don't need is Vol fans clamoring for Peterman to replace Worley when they have no clue whether Peterman or another freshman can even huddle up without messing his pants.

This is perhaps the most over-rated OL in UT's history. I understand that they played arguably 2 of the top 7 defenses in the country the last 2 weeks - but come on. You're seniors and you can't run block worth a crap? Please. You can't seal off a defender any better than that? Whatever.

They went up against one of the best defenses in the country. Sure, they could have played better, but credit is due to players like Fowler and Easley for being great players.

I agree with OP though.

What was wrong with Richardson today? He had a terrible game. I haven't seen a UT back break a tackle in 2 years. First guy there gets them down every time.

We have some good football players but they are badly coached and offensive game plan is a joke. Our OL is capable of blocking just fine if we ran traditional offense (see 4th quarter when we stopped running spread).
Because if that it remains to be seen whether we need another coach (it's already pretty clear at least some of the assistants are not up to SEC standards - starting with OC and DC).

A lot of the issues I saw today are very correctable. As long as those kids don't give up and keep fighting every play, they can progress nicely by the time the season is over.

Sorry but there is talent on the roster and it is NOT being utilized for the best possible results. Statistically... UF beat UT about the same as they beat Toledo. Last week, the stats weren't too far off what Oregon laid on Nicholl's St.

If we had some good football players, then our record would be better the last 4 years. Last year was the year to win 8 games, and DD blew it. To give up on the staff this early is dumb. While I agree that this OL is better suited for a straight running game, they still haven't proven that they can run block in any scheme in 4 years. To suggest that they can is wrong. We simply need more players. Better players will make you a better play caller. That is not difficult to see.

I agree with the OP assessment. What we have is a talent problem, not a coaching problem, at least IMO. Bad angles, missed tackles, dropped balls, turnovers, missed blocks....those things were obvious, not so obvious is whiffing at a block or simply missing it, QB making the wrong read, WR not running a sharp route or creating seperation...a lot of things that are basic and have been coached to these guys since junior high, things they work on every day, on gameday it's up to the player to execute. Also, talent, vision, instinct. Things that can't be coached. This staff didn't suddenly unlearn football. This staff knows what it takes to be successful.
