Discovery Channel hostage-taker hated programming - Yahoo! News

It wasn't the first time Lee, a homeless former Californian, had targeted Discovery's headquarters. In February 2008, he was charged with disorderly conduct for staging a "Save the Planet Protest." In court and online, he had demanded an end to Discovery Communications LLC's shows such as TLC's "Kate Plus 8" and "19 Kids and Counting."

Instead, he said, the network should air "programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility."

"Humans are the most destructive, filthy, pollutive creatures around and are wrecking what's left of the planet with their false morals and breeding cultures," Lee wrote in a bitter manifesto on his website.

Social Darwinism always seems to find a way with the really dumb ones.

Where is LG? I was sure he'd be demanding an apology from Al Gore and the Environuts over this.

I don't think either of those shows glorify the subjects' choices...

There is no comparison between this guy losing his mind over a movie that promotes long term economic and policy change as a way to promote environmental reform and warns of the long term consequences of fialing to change lifestyles versus incendiary hate rhetoric from radio show hosts, tea partiers, and Fox that promotes the view that Obama is a Muslim, that he should be "targeted," that holds rallies where people show up with guns displayed in a show of defiance to government, where people show up and say they hope that Obama gets brain cancer and dies, where racists flock, where people warn that Obama is either trying to kill them with socialized medicine or take away their country right this minute, that blames poor blacks for all the ills of the economy and then blames Obama for being their leader (and not ours), and on and on.

People who compare these two are utter morons.

There's no shortage of environmental types that liken those opposed to their views as holocaust deniers or worse.

A whackjob is a whackjob, be they left or right. Throw out the high and low scores and see what's left.

There's always crazies on the extreme of any movement and I agree wholeheartedly that the movement is not to blame for that. This is so largely because even if those people were not crazy about that they would be about something else.

This fellow, for example, by all accounts was unbalanced and became obsessed with population control.

The difference I see is that there are people re: Obama who promote, either directly (the birthers) or indirectly (Beck says "The President says he is a Christian and so we have to believe him" leaving room of course to not so subtly imply that maybe he really isn't) and these folks speak in terms of something a bit shy of open revolt but well past just voting or participating in campaigns.

The problem is that the birthers and Beck and Hannity and the tea party crowd are intentionally whipping people up into a frenzy when they know that some of them, and not necessarily people who would otherwise be off kilter, may well become so and act out.

And that of course is without regard to the fact that they promote under the guise of old values systems some pretty repugnant things.

Yet you can't link any violence to the rhetoric you're whining about.

Wonder why?

have any of the nutjobs you constantly talk about said that their actions were a direct result of what Beck said like this guy did with Algore?

And if you can't see that the same can be said of Al Gore and his environmental agenda, and other left wing agendas, then there's no point in discussing things like this with you anymore.

Every time I've seen Beck he explicitly reminds people to effect change via debate and not violence.

I guess that's code for go use violence.

LG knows what he REALLY means.

Meanwhile he dismisses left wingers when they flat out say things like this.

so telling us we are all going to die in 40 years when the oceans rise 20 feet isn't intentionally whipping people up into a frenzy? this is the same guy who bought BEACHFRONT PROPERTY.

you can't seriously be implying that beck is trying to incite violence or at least doesn't care if it happens.
and please tell me how you make hte leap from saying obama might not be christian to whipping people up into a frenzy?

Leave it to LG to minimize the destructive power one side has while maximizing the other.

Every last public person who openly promotes their views and agendas know full well that the crazies will be whipped up, it's inevitable due to their lack of mental stability. Gore is no more or less responsible for this attack than Beck or Hannity would be if it was some nut job from the right who perpetuated violence of this magnitude, it is the same thing. You just choose to demonize one side on the issue because you disagree with them and can't see the mirror reflection when it comes to those you agree with.

i think what he's implying is that beck actually wants people to commit violence and gore doesn't? this is of course absurd.

Which is why he's no different than anyone else he whines about, no matter how smart he keeps telling everyone he is.
