Epic Qb Battle 2013

Worley was the same level recruit as the other 3 and i think it would be unfair to 100% blame him for the results as he really hasn't been in a situation to succeed every time he has been given time, I think he can do the job

Why's everyone doubting Worley? I think he'll be solid.

Because most fans believe the grass is greener on the other side of the field. Examples... Sal v Wilcox, Fulmer v Kiffin, Dooley v Jones - those are only a drop in the bucket around this neck of volnation.

The best quarterback that we have would be the one we know the least about. It is hard to be critical of someone who you have never seen throw an interception or fumble a handoff. They don't usually have those included in their highlight reels.

The ones still in high school throw all perfect passes from what I see on youtube. They must be better than Worley because we've seen him throw interceptions. Have any of you seen Peterman, Ferguson, or Dobbs throw an interception? Didn't think so.....doesn't happen. I've seen their films.

My guess is the QB that looks like he can do the best impression of Dan Lefevour. 6'2, 190, ran 4.8 40, 2*, out of highschool. Became the Tebow of the MAC, breaking about every conference record, his stats are redonkulious and CBJ inherited him as a sophomore.

Ding ding ding

I couldn't have stated it any better.

Good prediction on the depth chart but I cant say Im stoked about it. Whoever it is will have a really tough year and lots of growing pains with no proven receivers or running backs and no experience with the offense or starting in the SEC. I really wish we had a cupcake schedule to lessen the agony but Im prepared for multiple blowouts and a maximum of 5 wins.[/QUOTE]

There are NO cupcake schedules for those that play in the SEC.

What we consider Cupcake would KILLLLLLL any other conference

I want to wait till summer time to make any predictions. Somebody bump this thread five months from now.

Don't forget, all our QBs are the fastest, biggest guys on the field. If his high school film is any indication, we could start Peterman on the D line if he can't hit his passes.

I really like Worley, and I think he was put in very tough situations last year. I personally think/hope Worley starts and leads this team in 2013. His skill set in my opinion would do good for this offense, he's more mobile than people give him credit for and pretty accurate. However, I've heard great things about Peterman and while I don't want a qb controversy either, he needs to get time in here somewhere. AT LEAST RF or Dobbs needs to redshirt, preferably both. That being said, Worley is a year above Peterman.

Another great article...

Tennessee Volunteers Starting Quarterback In 2013

I think Peterman is the man for the job with the mix of talent, skill, and intangibles the kid has. He is the leader we have been needing and waiting for both on and off the field. A true student of the game and an extremely hard worker/leader in the weight room. Plus, he has a great relationship with CBJ already established as Cincinnati was in his top two during recruiting.

Highlight films are just that, highlights, but I can tell you - I saw many of his games during his HS career in person and he didn't throw many interceptions. He had 0 INTs in his senior season up until his last or second to last game in the regular season. Very accurate and great wheels. Didn't have the most accurate stats coming out of HS as he didn't see but one series into the second half of 9/10 of his regular season games.

It will be very interesting to see what shapes up not only this year but next... we seem to be overstocked. But a great problem to have!

You can look at it 1 of 2 ways...

Worely ends up being the guy and we can red shirt the two studs coming in. This is not going to be our year to compete for championships anyway. If Worley can get us 6 wins and a bowl appearance, that would be good momentum to carry into next year and to help recruits see that we are on the right track.

Another way to look at it is that we have an incredible, senior-laden offensive line coming back. This would be the perfect year to get a young QB a lot of in game experience and hopefully not get him killed.

Personally, I hope Worely ends up being the guy. He's an upperclassmen, he at least has in game experience, and it would allow us to redshirt or incoming QB's. Obviously CBJ will start whoever deserves to be the guy and I'll support that. I just hope it's Worely.

Dobbs will be the starter before the year is over.

Pah! There's no way they'll play him unless its an emergency situation (injuries) this year. It wouldn't make sense. I definitely believe Dobbs has a bright future at UT but why not RS him and build security in the position?

If there's any advantage going into this contest it's that Peterman and Worley will go through spring practice and have a chance to work in the new offense before fall camp. They also have had more time in a college strength and conditioning program. Between those two, who are ahead of the freshmen, I don't think that one is ahead of the other and it will play out through spring/fall camp. Which is good news for the team, it forces them to compete against each other and improve that way.

Gotta go back to Copeland, Helton, Manning and Stewart to have that good at depth for QB at Tennessee. As I recall, Copeland and Helton both injured and Manning got his chance. I appreciate Bray's rejection of Kiffin and loyalty to Tennessee and I wish him success but glad he moved on with this group here .... YES competition should be great to watch at QB and WR!!! GBO!!

I think you mean Jerry Colquitt. If Heath Shuler would have stayed his senior year, it would have been Shuler, Colquitt, Helton, Manning, going into that season. Can you imagine that sort of depth?

That being said, it's always interesting to have a wide open quarterback race.

The doesn't fit Butch's offense argument against Worley just isn't true. Worley ran a pass happy version of the spread in high school. There will be more running now but he should be very comfortable in it.

Either way I do really believe every QB will have an equal chance to play. But the coaches will definitely take Worley's experience in to consideration. Just too many people over looking Worley. Peterman has proven nothing yet.

With the Heisman runner-up returning, and those guys behind him, Peyton would have redshirted and started 95-98.

The best part about the battle is everyone of them will go out and give 110% knowing that if they muff theyll lose that shot at starting. It's between Nathan & Justin, Riley &, Dobbs will not enroll until late June.
