Correct me if Im wrong, Eric Berry was piaying CB and did not start against Cal. He came in early in the game at safety and was instantly good. It seems our coaches did not know what they had.

They absolutely knew what they had. Why do you think he was starting as a true Freshman? EB can play any position in the backfield.

And not just the defensive backfield. He also rushed for more than 1,500 yards and threw for more than 1,000 yards as a senior in HS.

If I remember correctly we were in the dime package on our first defensive play so he was credited with a start. The following week he started at safety against southern miss then he started at corner against florida. After that he started at safety for the rest of his college career.

He was not a starting CB, but we opened in what I think was a nickel and he was the third CB on the field. It was obvious he would be getting significant playing time but an injury put him in a starting safety spot. I think the injury was to M. Johnson.

Speaking of KC players, Bray was unimpressive with a fumble. I thought if we were going to speak of old topics then why not bring him up.

One of the biggest mistakes of Fulmer's coaching career

I remember the next week when he made his first start against Ole Miss and he torched them for over 150 yards (IIRC), and in his post game remarks Tommy Tuberville made a comment to the effect that it was puzzling to him why Jamal Lewis had not started before that game.

Yea I think he was the number 2 overall recruit in the nation(according to rivals) at the time. I think that is correct.. So I'm pretty sure they knew what they had, plus if you ever seen this guys high school film he was like a man amongst boys

I believe I read once where Peyton was allowed to tell coaches who he wanted back there for that game. The vet or the Freshman. Peyton was worried @ JL handling blocking assignments.
If CPF / Cut made the decision based on a players choice, then it truly was one of the worst decisions on his career. Even if it was Manning.
