My kids and I were fortunate enough to attend a UT practice recently and we got to meet Erik Ainge. Most of you already know this, but Erik is truly a class act. My son went up to him after practice and asked him for an autograph - Erik was very gracious and gave the kids autographs and high fives. He spent a few minutes talking with them. He was tired after a long practice, but he took the time with my sons and made them feel very special.

You always wonder about some of the guys - will they be rude, etc. My kids were huge Erik fans before, but now they think he hung the moon.

Trooper Taylor is hilarious - he had me laughing out loud several times. We got to meet him as well - what a wonderful addition to our coaching staff. Let's hope he stays around for a long time.

BTW, it is amazing to see this guys up close and personal. I played some football for a I-AA school and thought those guys were big :eek:hmy: They were little compared to these guys.

I met Erik Ainge several times when he was a freshman and I felt the same way as you do now. I'm sure he's matured quite a bit in 2 years.

in the days of athletes shooting it up outside of a strip club and going into the stands to assalt fans, it's refreshing to read that. IMO, tha's why college will always be better than pro

I have had a man-crush on him since the day he stepped onto campus!

It's funny how you can hear rumors to the contrary. I was on campus the last two years and I always heard he was rude and arrogant. But I found it hard to believe because he always seemed pleasant enough. I guess it goes to show you some people have to shoot others down for their own benefit. I think this is a great story and I'm glad to hear it. Good for Ainge, I have and will continue to wish nothing but the best for him, on and off the field.

My dad and 2 year old niece went to the indoor facility to watch a practice and once the team was done, a number of players, including Erik, came over to play with her. I thought that was pretty cool. Showed the character of the team. I am a little jealous she has met these guys and I haven't, but I will live.

That's a nice story. I liked Erik Ainge already for his playing ability, but hearing this story gives me another reason to like him.

Great post! Good too see most of these guys are down to Earth towards the fans.

I was a bartender at Ivy's on the strip and a lot of the ballplayers came in, all were very cool, had a couple of problems out of Dale Carter, but when sober he was very nice. Chuck Smith was great.

Up to this season Erik has not put in the kind of work required to play his position at UT. I am thrilled that he is a nice guy, but I am even happier that he has decided to put the work in.

It really is, when he's losing, people said he was horrible person. But now that he's winning, he's great. I'm not saying he's either / or because I haven't met him personally, just an observation. I do think that he's done a lot of growing up since Coach Cutcliffe arrived though.
