I did one in NYC. Only 20% solve rate and we got it with 7' to spare. We were going nuts. I highly recommend it.

Haven't heard of it.

It's a game where you're locked in a room under a specific scenario (kidnapped, in jail, etc.) and you and your group have 60 minutes to get out. There are hidden clues you have to find and solved to find keys, codes, hidden rooms, and information that gets you out.

It's really cool and totally worth it.

That's pretty awesome! My group just set the record for "The kidnapping" at "Breakout Knoxville"

Its super exciting to make it out like that.

Planning to do Escape Experience in Chattanooga. Sounds fun!

Go for it Volly! All the Chattanooga rooms are great! enjoyed them all. My wife and her family are the record holder for "The Vaccine"

One of the fascinating things to me about it is the economics side and business model of the new "experience entertainment" category. The first one set up in Nashville is grossing about $7 million each year. Pretty impressive for something that was virtually unknown in the States less than 3 years ago.

there's one in Powell...think it's called EscapeWorks. FrightWorks converted their setup to an escape room thing. Seems cool and I've talked to guys about doing it, but haven't yet.

The "Saw" series comes to mind. But heck yeah! We need one in Memphis, or naw I'll go to Nashville, me my wife and son just spent a few days up there, first visit for me in about 13years when my best friend graduated NADC. Very nice downtown and so clean!
The Hermitage would be an awesome escape room scenario! But not actually in "The Hermitage" hate to destroy Ole Hickory's bad A wallpaper!

It is easy to make money when a trend takes off and your overhead is only a building with a different escape scenario in each room and you charge $30 per person .

Never heard of this, but googled for my area and there is one in town. Looks pretty awesome and might try and get a group together for it.

Our room was a NYC apartment. Probably costs $3k a month to rent and they are probably pulling in $1k on weeknights and their only other cost (besides small administrative costs) is the $15-20/hour they pay the guide.

People still pay to try.

I agree. But if people start Yelping that the puzzles are too easy, you'll draw fewer crowds. And you need to be able to constantly rotate completely different stories. It's truly one of the only things you can convince a person to do once. With movies at least you can enjoy different aspects by going a second time. Once you've solved it, you won't spend more money until there's a new puzzle.

So if it's made known on yelp that the puzzles are too simplistic and if you don't rotate enough, your customer base will dry up very quickly.

Gotta take into account that I'm thinking of this on a Knoxville-size town with Knoxville-esque travel. In NYC, you can survive on fewer escape stories because you'll draw lots of tourists.

Designed for all ages. Haven't run into anything that would be impossible for kids or elderly (within reason).

In big cities it's not a problem. Only a handful of people play at once.
