It is certainly nice to be in the national conversation after years of wandering through the football wilderness with a litany of incompetent coaches at the helm. So I was on ESPN’s playoff predictor. First, it’s nice to see UT given such a high percentage to make the playoff. Then I ran the thing with UGA. This is what it spit out. Just a corny little exercise, but kinda cool to see after all of that suffering. Go Vols!

The 5th seed is probably going to be the best spot to land. Likely didn’t play in the conference championship, home game against the lowest seed so probably G5 rep, then play 4th place conference champion. Could potentially make the semi finals without playing a top 15 team.

^^^ EXACTLY.

5th seed is the sweet spot.

Host a home playoff game in Neyland vs Liberty or similar G5 team.

2nd round game vs #4 seed so perhaps at Oklahoma State Big12 champ... OR... ACC champion Miami? Or Clemson. They dont play in regular season, so that will be decided in ACC champ game likely between those 2 teams.

Then the final 4 teams square off to see who plays for the Chip...

I'd still rather have the 1 seed. By the time a 5 seed gets to the semis or natty, they will have played 3 or 4 games in a row. The 1 seed will have only played 2 or 3 games in a row. The goal isn't to just get to the semis, it's to win the natty and fresher legs will be important.

It is just one extra game. Agree you would rather have the bye but the number 5 seed is not a bad place to be at all. And if Tennessee did not make the SEC championship game and was the 5 seed, they would have actually played the same number of games (albeit differently spread out).
