The cuts amount to about 10% of the employees at the sports network and are due largely to the impact of the pandemic on its business and the “tremendous disruption in how fans consume sports.

... Which is almost entirely through television, for now. What happened is they missed a golden opportunity to actually provide even MORE and UNIQUE access, and they chose to alienate or piss off about half of their viewership, instead.

No they chose to piss off way more than half. ESPN is mostly a college sports outlet. The coastal elites they pander to are not watching college sports other than some basketball. Screw ESPN.

go back to what made them a success - they showed sports we'd never seen before. I was a major Aussie Rules FB fan in the 80s because of ESPN. Sure they gave us more of what the networks showed but they were built on showing us stuff you couldn't get elsewhere.

From a business standpoint, I enjoy working with Fox Sports a lot more.

But damned if ESPN doesn't pay good. Having said that to say this, they cut back from their normal 12 person needs with us to only 3 total including the overnight coverage.

be interesting to see their non-US business vs US. NBA appears to be the most international play among the majors.

I caught some Dodge-Juggle and cornhole on TV before major sports resumed. One of my friends has become a big Aussie Rules fan recently, even follows a particular team.

I actually bought an authentic jersey back in the early 80s - no Internet; the good old fashioned way via mail inquiries and correspondence. Essendon.
