ESPN on Sara Puckett!

Sara is one of our best players. She got starter minutes as a freshman. So even though we have other really good players, Sara will be on the court, because you have to find a way to have your best players in the game. GO SARA!
Do you think that Sara will get more minutes per game, this upcoming season, than she did last season ?
And if so, how much ?

Kellie has said we will have (paraphrasing here) a deep enough roster that we will go with the hot hand. She also said sometimes we forget that Horston can play point. I believe Kellie and the team are confident in what Sara can do, and she will be even better this year. She has a big presence on the court, is a leader, and can make the pressure shot in big games.

To guess how many minutes Sara will get, I think she will get as many as last year, and that’s a lot. I would not be surprised to see her as a starter. Kellie trusts her.

Sara is definitely a key player for this team. I’m looking for her to make huge sophomore jump!

Last year, you could tell she was playing with some nerves and maybe thinking too much, which is common for freshman. And still, she took and made big shots. I think we’ll see a much more confident player, which is exciting!

I wouldn’t be surprised to see her start either. Not only is she a sniper from three - she can score in a variety of ways.

I actually would love to see a lineup of Powell, Horston, Kea, Sara and Tamari.

Love Sara but Ms Jackson has to be on the court as a starter imho.

Last year, Sara also kept the way clear for our player to drive to the basket, she won’t be pushed around.

Sara has to start. Need someone who can step back and pop threes

I think she's a stretch four, and she'll see lots of minutes in games where she matches up well with the other team's four. She may also see some time at the 5, again depending on matchups.

We have Tamari, Franklin, Jillian, Striplin, and Marta who all have experience playing the 5 position, so think we’re covered there, but you never know.

Tess actually shot 38% on threes last season in comparison to Sara's 29%. If Tess has gotten stronger and quick getting that shot off, many may be underestimating her. I have her coming in between 9-11 in the rotation, but she started a year ago most of the season on a team that was 18-1 and ranked number 4 in the country. I think it may end up being the defensive side of the ball that ends up separating these players and their playing time. We do have some zone-busters on this team and I bet both Tess and Sara make big cases for playing time.

Didn't Tess miss something like her first 11 three point shots of the season?

I remember last time this year, most of the speculation was that Striplin was going to be the best from her class. I don’t know if I saw anyone predict Sarah was the best, it may have been predicted, but there was a ton of Striplin talk. She will be a good player no doubt, but I would say Sarah has shown she is the gem of that UT class, in most every way. She should get more SEC recognition, Puckett is one of the best players from the last year‘s freshman class in the entire SEC.

As I stated before, for the old timers, she has a lot of John Havlicek in her game, and that is a good thing. I am a big fan of her. Her clutch shot in the NCAA tourney was something special for a true freshman, moment never too big for that gal. She was underrated coming out of HS.

The stretch of the game when we had Horston, Jackson, Key, Powell, and Puckett in there we scored on 9 of 10 possessions and Sarah scored on three of those nine. I am just glad to now have five six different players that can hit the three at a decent percentage we haven't had that before. Marta, Sarah, and Jasmine Powell along with Pissott, and Darby with Horston and Jackson also being around 30 percent from there give us a lot of players that can take the long one. Coaches and players say Hollingshead can shoot it from there need more information before I add her to the group. We made 147 of 495 last season about 30 percent. I expect that number to go way over 200 made this season and am expecting 35 percent efficiency. Looking at 20 attempts a game making at least seven of those attempts would add points we were not getting last season. We average making just a little over 4 a game so you can see all other things being equal that could add nine points to the team average.
