Anyone else notice how little actual coverage of racing on the track yesterday's ESPN coverage provided? Between historic moments, cutaway car reports, Brent Musberger lame scene setting reports, draft tracker, Kolber reports, and on and on... I don't think there was two hours of actual racing coverage in the four hours on the air.

Poor job, ESPN. Show the race.

what were you watching? i thought they did a fantastic job, minus Rusty Wallace.

OK, but I didn't feel that way. always seemed to me they were covering everything but what was happening on the track....

Different perceptions I guess...

I could do without Rusty too...Even on ESPN, Jarrett is better..

let's face it too. the Brickyard isn't exactly a track that lends itself to great NASCAR racing. 3/4 of the race is generally a parade. sometimes there was nothing on the track happening, to cover.

oh, and i thought the draft tracker and the cutaway car gararge ESPN had blew anything TNT or FOX had out of the water.

when that guy was explaining what happened to Junior's motor on the computer screen i was in awe. also, i don't think they really cut away from the action on the track except when had the chance because of caution or what have you.

overall, i give ESPN an A, with points being deducted for Rusty just talking to hear himself talk. he needs to be replaced with DJ.

Rusty, Petree, and Brewer are awful. ESPN needs to bring back the guy from their previous years (can not remember name) that broadcasted with Punch.

I thought ESPN did a great job. A-

Of course its not very hard to improve on the crap TNT produces. I was simply glad not to hear promotions for second-rate shows with has-been (never-was) actors like The Closer, Saving Grace, Heartland, etc. and see said actors in Wally's Car.

The graphics and technical stuff ESPN had was AWESOME. I'm not a fan of Larry Mac as a commentator, but would love to see him in that tech garage instead of Brewer. (That animated/interactive touch screen thing of the engine they did when Jr. blew up was amazing).

I would also like to see Bob Jenkins Back, but Dr. Punch is great too..don't really need two play-by-play guys. Rusty didn't bother me that much, but I think Kyle Petty was a lot better, he was one bright spot of TNT's broadcast, and really surprised me with how good he was. I can't stand Dave Burns, bring back John Kernan, or get Wendy Venturini or Ralph Shaheen or somebody.

Brent Bleeping Musberger HAS TO GO!!!!

Rusty's problem is that he adds nothing. His commentary is meaningless and generally just a repeat of what the guy before him just said.

My personal favorite is David Hobbs from F-1. He doesn't talk too much, he doesn't just throw out glowing praise for drivers or the sport and he seems genuinely excited by the action on the track.

That's not just an ESPN problem, none of the networks do that good of a job. I didn't notice much of a difference as far as race, or lack thereof, coverage went.

That whole crew is fantastic. I'd love for Varsha to broadcast NASCAR races, except for the fact I don't want him to leave the F1 coverage

Hobbs yes; Varsha has gotten much better so a yes to him but that other guy (former racer) is annoying is hell. He's so over dramatic about the thoughts in drivers heads (like Sam Posey used to be for Indy 500) and I hate when he's "coaching" drivers on the track "now, get off the brakes and get on it young man...". I think they know what they are doing

Matchett.

Was he a driver, too? I know he was a crew guy for a team (or two, maybe).

Haha - Wally Dallenback (spelling?)

His stupid sections during the race are so dumb.. you can't even take that guy seriously because of his name and he was just a bad racer.
