2. Tommy Thigpen
School: Tennessee
ESPN 300 recruits: 9
Top recruit: ESPN 300 No. 48 Josh Malone
Previous ranking: 3
Many recruiters work hard, but few match the work ethic and miles that Thigpen covers for Tennessee. Recruiting from one end of the country to the other, the Vols' linebacker coach has long been one of the nation's best recruiters. His 2014 effort is no exception; Thigpen has played a role in 18 of the prospects Tennessee has landed, including No. 6 WR Malone (Gallatin, Tenn./Station Camp), No. 6 junior college offensive tackle Dontavius Blair (Garden City, Kan./Garden City C.C.), No. 3 outside linebacker Dillon Bates (Ponte Verda Beach, Fla./ Ponte Verda Beach), No. 13 safety Cortez McDowell (Locust Grove, Ga./Locust Grove) and No. 11 inside linebacker Gavin Bryant (Jackson, Ala./Jackson).

We do NOT need to lose a coach that can recruit like this!!!

The ONLY way we'll ever get back to the top is by having top recruiting classes consistently every year.

As a Tennessee Alumni , we need to keep Thigpen, regardless of the cost. Just pass the hat and we will come up with the money. Don't worry about trivial things !!!!!

UT has plenty of money... and plenty of donors willing to give more. The university just needs to be smarter about how-- and for whom-- it's used.

You ever notice how Assistant X, Y, and Z at Bama is in the top 10, if not the top spot, per this year? Yeah, me too. Thigpen should be number one. Well, check that: Saban should be number one and Thig two.

Totally agree. The penny pinching moneybags need to open up the checkbook and lock both of these guys down

For the love of God! Give this man a raise so we can keep him. Other programs will come shopping if for no other reason than to sabotage our recruiting in an effort to keep us down.

There was a position coach like this on the hill several years ago that had the ability to convince recruits to commit to UT. Rodney Garner. His time here was short lived though due to some "circumstances" between him and the HBC at the time.

Tommy is one with SEC connections, getting it done. Without him, there's no way CBJ and staff would have recruited into the top 15. CBJ, if knows whats best for his longevity at UT, should come off his own wallet if UT won't....to give Thig a raise. CBJ can sell more bricks....get this man a raise.
