ESPN’s idea to turn ESPNU into “ESPN8: The Ocho” was a decently funny call, making a joke from Dodgeball into an actual day of programming.

But you know what? It’s been great.

It’s taking all the type of quirky, off-the-beaten-path leagues, championships and series we grew up watching on ESPN2 (“The Deuce” as it was once known) and reminding us that non-mainstream games — Kabaddi! Darts! Arm wrestling! Cornhole! — are still awesome sports. Can we make this more than a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence?

ESPN 2 was airing cornhole matches last weekend. Between that nonsense, poker and spelling bees, they've not only jumped the shark, they depth charged the damn thing.

I watched some of the cornhole a couple weeks ago. Those guys in the senior division were unreal. I bet they've cleaned up at many a tailgate.
