ETSU is a dumpster fire now, problems up and down the AD. The last AD they had seemed to turned it into his own personal business pipeline and played favorites with the supposed money interests. So when does Quarles get fired? Dude deserves it the way he always trashed his players behind the scenes and always touted his system. Now he cries about NIL and lack of resources at ETSU. Karma sucks and so does Quarles.

Couldn’t happen to a better program. People talk about nepotism and favoritism running rampant at UT, they haven’t been to ETSU.
Yeah pretty much. They’ve had a ton of problems across the AD. Surprised they didn’t get into a ton of legal trouble with the last softball coach they had, not to mention issues with the men’s and women’s hoops teams. So they had a good ol boy system running at ETSU? I didn't know that. I agree about Quarles though. I expected a drop-off after Sanders retired, but good grief, not this bad. They're getting blown out every week. Horrible defense and bad offense. Hope they get back on track soon....
Is this the Quarles who coached at Maryville HS, and seemed to be universally worshipped here on VN? What happened? So when does Quarles get fired? Well, my sponsorship won't do me much good if people are about to stop coming to football games. The picture they painted was of a fanbase that's still ravenous for their Saturday Bucs football. I'm driving up for their game on 10/7 to watch from the suite, so I should be able to get a better gauge then.Idk anything about the ETSU athletic department. Seems like the school is in a good place from the outside looking in.
I don't mean this in an "I told you so" way. After the kneeling incident, I mentioned on a couple of ETSU blogs that I didn't think we'd see another solid football or basketball team in my lifetime (I'm 63). It's hard enough to lure recruits, but when an opposing recruiter can go into a prized recruit's home and tell the parents, "Look what they did when the players tried to stand up (or kneel) for their rights," it's all over. No doubt, ETSU doesn't have a good coach. But at this point, I don't see how the Bucs can compete.Well, my sponsorship won't do me much good if people are about to stop coming to football games. Basketball seems to be headed in a good direction, though. I just had the new coach on my podcast.
I am actually days away from signing a big sponsorship deal with ETSU athletics. Sooo...are you all telling me that's a mistake?
Thanks. We are opening a D1 Training in JC, and I figured ETSU would be a good way to get in front of a lot of folks. You will get something out of it, enough people still go to the games just because it’s something to do. But as this season goes on, that attendance is going to dwindle. They are poorly coached and are devoid of talent from top to bottom of the roster. Just look at highlights of their last game and against APSU - it’s light years difference.
There’s definitely a market for ETSU athletics, but it’s been mismanaged into the ground by the previous AD and those in that orbit.
(I live and work in the TRI, around enough people to know the score in JC)
I dont think it is literally possible to do an "I Told You So" on your first post. Welcome to VNI don't mean this in an "I told you so" way. AD Carter (ETSU Alum/Knox native) who learned his ways at UT got out of it easy with a salary intact for awhile. I’m sure he had aspirations of returning back to UT down the road, that’s not happening.Yeah pretty much. They’ve had a ton of problems across the AD. The softball debacle could have been avoided by him doing his due diligence and a half decent background check. It was doomed and rushed when the female HC couldn’t remember his name. Sanders suspension compounded with the basketball Jason Shay was too much too soon. Unfortunate for ETSU all around. They really had things going at ETSU a few years back with Football and Basketball looking dominant for their level. Then they found out everything was built on quicksand and it fell apart faster than lightning. Too many small town money interests trying to make their own little kingdom and ended up burning the whole thing down around them.
I’m a UT guy through and through, but living around here you hear enough that there’s a lot of love for the Bucs. Feel sorry for them, we’ve been down this road ourselves but to see it play out like it did was nothing short of shocking.

What @Majors said summarizes it.ETSU grad here…I know about football and basketball, what happened with softball?!?
The maryville job might be available soon. From what I’ve been told the new guy isn’t getting it done and parents are unhappySo when does Quarles get fired?
