1) Was a decent test. ETSU is a tourney team that returns 4 starters. Final score 88-65.

Notable Stat line:

T. Jones- 25pt 12reb
B. Knight- 17pt 5asst 4reb
D. Lamb- 20pt 5reb 3asst
D. Miller- 8pt 11reb

2) Doron Lamb and Brandon Knight had excellent games from behind the arc, as did the team. I did not realize that Knight has the deep range that he displayed tonight. They were lights out in the first half. Team 3pt totals were 13-26, with 12 of them coming in the first half. Second half brought the percentage down as they continued to jack up three's. 17 assists, 10 turnovers.

3) We played well against the zone, eventually shooting them out of it as they went man to man. As expected with a freshmen team (much like last year) our lateral quickness on defense is lacking. Not due to ability, but effort. Hopefully that changes.

4) Our low post defense is non-existent. Due to ETSU's lack of height, UK did control the boards and got some blocked shots, but they also got backed down several times and scored on. Several teams on this schedule will have their way with us on the post.

5) Terrence Jones is a beast, but sometimes an uncontrollable one. He takes some ill advised runners and contested shots, but he is extremely athletic. Probably better handles and a bit quicker with the ball than Harris, but does not have the post game that Tobias has. I look forward to them matching up later on.

Not much else to say, other than the obvious; defense and toughness.

From what I saw, Terrence Jones was the best player on the floor for the majority of the game.

For the most part, he was. He shot over 50% from the floor, and had no turnovers. He was 2/3 behind the arc. However, I think Lamb was the most efficient player with the ball last night. From the perimeter and cutting in the lane, every time he touched the ball it was gold, and you knew good things were about to happen. Jones made some great plays, but forced the action with some not so smart plays to get his stat line. Jones is without a doubt the best offensive force on the roster. FYI, he is horrible free throw shooter.

Another note I wanted to add, is that Stacey Poole was a wasted scholly.

Isn't a bit early to make the call that Poole was a waste? To be fair, I have not seen him play, but wow, 1 game in?

and true to any Calipari team....
39% from the charity stripe. haha

That was courtesy of Terrence Jones, who was 3-10. To add to the irony of course, he was named SEC freshman of the week for the first week of the season. But his FT shooting is horrendous, no way around it. Hopefully there is some improvement, because he will be going to the line a lot.

Call it my MHF super premature prediction, but yeah I don't think he will see significant minutes at any point. I have watched him play this summer in Canada, the blue-white scrimmages, and exhibitions. Cal is playing a 7 man rotation this season, and so far any "spell" minutes or significant minutes past those 7 players belong to Jon Hood, who is playing quite well.

It could be case like Deandre Liggins last year, where Cal made him bust his hump half the season in practice before playing him, which turned out to be a great move. But I can tell you straight up he doesn't have the game that Liggins has, especially offensively. Poole can get to the rim decently, but couldn't throw it in the ocean. If Poole learns to kill himself on the defensive end, he might find a role on this team, but thats his only option. Unfortunately for him, with next years class coming in along with Lamb, Miller, Liggins all staying, he looks to be a clipboard holder. Might even transfer (just my opinion).

yeah, that ft% was bad, but as for 3 point %. if they can shoot it lights out, they won't miss kanter in too many of their games.
