Here is ESPN's evaluation of Cummings:

"Cummings is a good sized defensive end prospect with a solid get-off. He comes across as a tough and strong kid. Would like to see him be more consistent in his quickness off the ball. Will flash the ability to fire off the ball low and shoot his hands, but you want to see that more. He is a physical kid at the point of attack and displays good raw strength, but needs to watch his pad level and bring his hands more. He is a physical kid that will lead shoulder first often and have a tough time of being able to quickly shed. Does an adequate job of squeezing down. Displays solid straight line speed. He can seem a little rigid on the move and displays very adequate short-area change-of-direction skills. He is a solid tackler. He plays with a good motor. As a pass rusher he has the ability to get into a blocker and bull rush his way back. Not a kid that will run by blockers, but displays the ability to get active with his weapons and work his way past. Cummings is a good sized and tough prospect. He needs to clean up some things, but displays the ability to be a solid and productive defender especially against the run at the college level."

We just offered this kid and now, according to Scout, we are his leader. Rivals also mentions us and Georgia in contention, but they haven't offered. I am curious as to why we would offer the #43 DE (rivals) when we are expecting to land the Merrell kid at #15.

The teaser seems to answer that partially. If he's out there running a legit 4.53 as a DE... he won't stay #43 for long.

Weakside defensive end
Roswell (GA) Centennial

Ht: 6-foot-3
Wt: 230 lbs
Forty: 4.57 secs
Bench max: 250 pounds
Vertical: 31 inches
Class: 2009 (High School)

Centennial senior defensive end Euclid Cummings and junior teammates David Yankey and Ben Carpenter spent Sunday afternoon in Columbia working out for South Carolina coaches.

The Gamecocks are intrigued by Cummings, who has played just one year of organized football. South Carolina wound up offering Cummings late Sunday afternoon.

“It’s a camp, but basically it’s a private workout with the kids,” Centennial coach Jeff Measor said.

“They want to see them do a few things for about 30 minutes.”

Cummings, who already had scholarship offers from Central Florida, Indiana, Maryland, N.C. State and Middle Tennessee State, will visit Auburn on Saturday.

Cummings and his two junior teammates have been invited to Georgia on July 18.

“Euclid is probably a longshot with Georgia, but David will be in the mix there,” Measor said. “David Yankey will be one of the highest rated kids in Atlanta next

DE Euclid Cummings (6-3 228) of Roswell, GA picked up an offer from USC Sunday while attending a camp session, and Monday night he called the Gamecocks he favorites. "I'm pretty wide open, but South Carolina is high up on my list," Cumming said. "South Carolina is definitely #1." Cummings said North Carolina is second on his list. He also has offers from Duke, Indiana, Maryland, Central Florida, Middle Tennessee State and Richmond. He's also getting interest from Georgia Tech and Auburn. Cummings said USC recruiter Ron Cooper was by his school earlier in the spring to watch a practice. Cummings, who had about 40 tackles and six sacks last season. plans to camp this weekend at either Auburn or Georgia Tech.

Centennial defensive end Euclid Cummings picked up scholarship offers from Middle Tennessee State and Indiana last week.

“And West Virginia is about to offer,” Centennial coach Jeff Measor said Wednesday evening.

Relatively new to football, Cummings’ stock should rise during camps this summer.

“He’s only played for a year,” Measor said. “A lot of schools want him to go to camp so they can watch him run some.

“There’s a few SEC schools interested in him. He’ll be a pretty high recruit this summer.”

I agree. He has also only been playing football for 1 year. If he has more good camp showings and a good senior season his stock could go thru the roof.

The real question is, who is his leader? TN, South Carolina or someone else? Rivals is now saying he is going to a camp at Georgia and is working hard to earn an offer from the dawgs. Sounds like he is just now being really recognized and he is so happy with the big time offers, the most recent one to offer is his leader.

yes it was prior to UT's offer and I did find the Richmond offer very telling. You have to believe that DC and staff were on to him last year.

KNS says he is in Knoxville now checking out UT football. Great to see some visitors at positions we need

Though Cummings doesn't identify a clear-cut leader, he does consider Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Maryland and North Carolina his top five. He also hopes to get back to Knoxville on an official visit.

also has a teammate that we are after for 2010, offensive lineman David Yankey

on the radio today I think based on his speed. With only one year of football under his belt, I would venture this kid could be a 5 star before the year is out if he dominates like he should in high school.

DE Euclid Cummings (6-3 235) of Roswell, GA took the SAT last weekend and will setup his official visits once his score returns. Right now he's looking at USC, Tennessee and North Carolina for visits. USC offered back in the spring and Cummings said he last heard from recruiter Ron Cooper about a month ago. He's hearing the most from Georgia Tech and North Carolina. He won't spend an official visit to Georgia Tech since he lives about ten minutes from campus. Cummings does not have a favorite.

10/30

From the GT site. Cummings is focused on Georgia Tech, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee with the Jackets leading. His comfort level while on visits will be his deciding factor.
