I always heard Rose claimed he only bet on the Reds to win. If that’s true, it’s not nearly as damning as betting on your team to lose and then throwing games IMHO. Definitely a dumb move for which he’s paid a heavy price.

My wife and her friends were in Vegas for her bachelorette party about 15 years ago and Pete Rose was eating next to them in the hotel restaurant. They asked him if they could get a picture. He got up and walked behind their table and stood in the middle of them all. Then they apologized and said they meant could he take THEIR picture. His wife was with him and said, "DO YOU KNOW WHO THIS IS?". They said no, they didn't. He ended up taking their picture AND taking a picture with them

Doesn’t matter. He’s managing a whole series, week and season. If he burns up the bullpen to win a single game; then runs out of pitching the next 2-3 days then he’s bet the Reds to lose anyway
