Everyone is a Racist...

My psych teacher was describing this in class on Monday. It's pretty odd how they came up for a test for the amount of implicit prejudice a person has.

Yeah it's not perfect, but it makes sense to do it based on reactions...if you're afforded enough time to choose then you can come up with a non-prejudiced response. There's definitely value in the test, but I don't put a ton of weight on it.

Big difference between prejudice and racism. Everyone is prejudice, not everyone is racist. IMO

I agree, though it seems anything remotely prejudiced automatically gets labeled "racist", so I'm trying to play by society's rules.

Everyone is prejudiced, racism is when there is hate associated with the prejudice, IMO.

There are two types of prejudice; explicit and implicit.

When people think of racism, they typically are thinking of explicit prejudice. People express their prejudices and stereotypes in an outward fashion.

Implicit prejudice is harder to judge, because it exists only in our subconsciousness, and has been suppressed by societal expectations and standards. Everyone has at least some degree of implicit prejudice towards something or someone.

You say tomato, I say tomato.

"Explicit Prejudice" by your definition is racism. In other words, acting upon your prejudice beliefs/opinions whether conscious or subconscious.

"Implicit Prejudice" by your definition is prejudice. Meaning unfavorable preconceived notion or opinion formed either consciously or subconsciously about another individual normally based upon an abstract reason.

I agree, everyone has some kind of racist in them. It's not right but it is what it is. I won't let some bigot get the best of me. F'em.
