Guys, everyone stay positive. We have to keep our situation in perspective. Every commitment that we sign needs to be viewed as an upset and we need to celebrate who we DO get not who we lose.

Our staff is in one of the most difficult spots ever for a staff at a major program in recent history. Not only did they have little to no time recruit, they have 2 snakes trying to sabatoge our class at everyturn.

One class isn't going to break our program and this class should be very strong in the end.

Stay Positive!!!

I agree that one class wont break our program, but when you are sitting with the 6th best class in the conference than thats hard to overcome

And to add to this, think of the kids that are excited to be signing with Tennessee today! We have some quality players that want to be in orange!

No, not a lot to be positive about. We needed to capitalize on what little momentum we had left over in recruiting from Kiffin and O this past year and get SOME talent into school. Future recruiting is going to struggle considering our inferior coaching staff, and likely struggles on the field next year.

It's all pretty subjective when the 6th best class in the conference is also top ten in the nation. Player development and getting recruits to buy into the system is just as important (if not more important) than recruiting. Remember when that rag tag Boise State team of 2-stars and 3-stars beat Oklahoma's blue chips?

Copeland huge loss. This post isn't even close to right. Completely wrong. Strong recruiting staff that's biggest problem right now is fighting relationships that x staff built before leaving! This staff is fighting for a class in three weeks. It will be not only better next year, it will be epically better. Great example of taking facts and analyzing........ And being completely wrong, could be any further off. This next year is going to be tough, but then it gets better.

I'm just sick and tired of all the snot bubbling going on....."Oh we didn't get Ambles...Oh we didn't get Copeland..." Well the last I checked we got some pretty good other players coming in....We have 2 of the Top 10 WR's in the country. The #1 kicker, probably Stone as well to go along with a few others....All of this in 3 weeks.....Some people need to realize that this isn't 1999 and we're coming of a NC. Bama, Florida, and LSU have all been better than us for the past 5 or 6 years and its going to take time to get back to that level...Do you realize when UT won the NC these kids signing today were in kindergarten or 1st grade?

Why don't you throw out some facts of your own to validate this statement? Here's a few from me.

1. A brutal schedule next season will have us go 6-6 AT BEST given the talent we have to work with.

2. We hired a coach whose only prior head coaching experience was being a failure in the WAC.

3. DD has failed to fill out his staff and doesn't seem to have much hope for landing any big names when he finally does.

How do any of those things add up to an "epically better" class for next year to you?

I would consider Wilcox and Chuck Smith (if the rumors are true) to be 2 very solid hires to fill out the staff.

You're an idiot. Go be a Vandy fan. We don't need nor want people with your attitude as a Vol fan.

You're right. Anyone who is a true Vols fans will blindly assume that the future holds nothing but good things for our football team. So basically, the folks who supported Fulmer to the bitter end assuming things were all going to work out in the end are the essence of "True Volunteers". Good to know.

Not at all, but the complete opposite of a true fan of anything is not giving your team and its coaches the benefit of the doubt before they step foot on the field next year. You have no idea what Dooley has in store with coordinators or this team. So be positive and supportive or keep your mouth shut. I mean we are going to he terrible in recruiting and on the field for years to come according you you so why watch or pay attention to the boards.

uh, RECRUITING. Since that is what you were discussing. Or did you forget? Recruiting will be much better. The 2010 seaon, which you weren't talking about will suck, 6-6 probable. So if you want to throw out some facts that support your recruiting claim, go for it. I'd saycread my post, but instead you just need to read your own!

To all those looking at the coaching staff as inferior and unproven I ask this...where do you think they have failed thus far. In the things this staff can control (ie-recruiting) where have they failed. I don't call it blind optimism by basing my thoughts on a staff by what has been accomplished in regard to the actual parts of the game that they have control over-so far I approve of CDD and his staff. Yes, we have needs, however this staff is pulling in some great talent and keeping a class together that could have easily fallen apart.
Also, (yes, I know, long post-i don't care) the true test of a staff is what they can do with the talent they have and I happen to think that CDD is assembling one hell of a coaching staff-especially in need areas such as D-Line.
Okay, I'm done......for now.

REALLY?? WOW!! Maybe you should just go ahead and pull the trigger now, don't keep putting it off, it's apparently not going to get any better for you.... :swoon3:

Just out of curiosity.Does Derek Dooley plan on hiring a defensive coordinator before the start of the season? Oh and one other question. Explain to me how we have four ELITE defensive tackles committed to us at one point and more than likely we are not going to sign a damn one of them. UT fans you can stay "positive" all you want but I am going to stay "realistic". If we do not pick our recruiting up a few notches we will not be able to compete with the big boys in the SEC. I remember last year when we struck out on DT's (With the exception of Arthur Jeffery) and everyone one here was like, "We have to sign 2-3 quality DT's in 2010". Well folks it looks like we have struck out again. I suggest this coaching staff throws the freaking barn at at least 5 DT's in 2011 because we are getting our butt kicked in recruiting by LSU, Auburn, Florida, Alabama, and possibly even Georgia.

Here is the situations guys:

With the time that this staff has had to regroup, we are lucky that we beat out KY in recruiting. What we now have is what I believe is a very solid if not spectacular coaching staff and...

QB - Check
Kicker - Check
Wr - Check check check check
OL - Check
DB - Check
RB - Check
FB - Check
DE - Check check
DT - Fail

Although I would have loved to have had a check at all positions, I believe we have some guys who can move around to help out at DT. My guess is that one or two OL recruits move there. We may sign a surprise "OL" or two to make this more possible.

Again, this is not a good thing at DT, but things could have been much, much did I mention much worse.

The only team in the SEC that outrecruited us is FL, and they outrecruited everybody. Some may be ranked ahead of us but I would take our class over anyone except FL.

Now lets go get 3 or 4 top ten DT for next year, and we will be good to go for 2011, which is likely our first chance at a title anyway.
