I have seen posts in threads today that are putting down this young team. They have also been a couple about Coach Jones. When did the sky start falling. This young Vol team held their own against a senior Oklahoma team. Alabama lost by double points to them in last years bowl game. I gaurentee you if the last three or four Vols teams played Oklahoma it would have been a worse loss. This young team grew last night. They can call it a loss, but this was no moral win...this was a slap in the face and a wake up call to the Vols team. This team is going to be fun to watch this year. Hey Tennessee is 2-1. Go Vols!!!!!!

I think most of us are realistic that a bowl game is still the goal. I agree about this team being fun to watch. I'm excited to see the difference we've already seen this year. It's good to be 2-1 right now.

For a while there in the 2nd quarter we looked really, really good. If we can find that energy and harness it against the rest of the teams on our schedule, we'll have a lot to cheer about.

The people that complain on these boards, and boards like it, are just miserable people in general. "Coach didn't do this", "This coordinator is a moron", "That player is the worst player to ever wear orange" and all those kinds of things are just moronic. They need someone to talk to, so they make a ridiculous post, and they sprinkle it with conversation bait because they want to argue, or they think they've got a unique point (they never do).

Personally, I think we all saw a lot to be excited about. I can't wait to see what Butch and boys can do.

In the meantime, let's not let these morons get their way and run away with the crap posts during the next 2 weeks while we're on bye.

Go Vols

I am proud of the way my vols kept fighting...a couple plays go the other way and we win that game. What else can you ask for from such a young team.

Especially after what Dooley didn't do in recruiting..good lord, anyone who doesn't see how much better this team is then previous years is blind.

No the expectation is 7-8 wins and bowl game. So no the expectation is not to high. This team is young and very talented. All the season goals are still attainable.

I would peg the realistic expectation at 6-6 with the goal of winning 7-8 games. The Vols have a lot to be encouraged about--good young talent across the board, a stable system and a pretty good offseason with few off the field problems. But young players are young players and young players do dumb things. In the SEC, to be good you have to have across the board strong talent--no weak links. To be great, you have to make plays. Croom has to catch the ball in the end zone, Worley has to not through the pick. Those things will get cleaned up and when the players get older and more experienced, the wins will come.

If we win 8 games I'll video myself getting a power T tattoo wherever you guys want it to be. No joke!

In case your calculators not working, we lost by double digits too. I agree though this team played well against a great football team and the score is nowhere near indicative of how close it was at several points in the game.

Whose expectation is 7-8 wins, your personal expectation? Most folks' expectations are six wins and a bowl game. 7 wins is gravey, and 8 wins this year would be a Christmas miracle. What we want vs. what is realistic are two different things.

I think this bye week is a blessing. Room for a lot of growth and improvement without having to go out on Saturday before a tough opponent.

I think we should sticky a thread just for this that includes a vote count.

Just to play devil's advocate, what exactly did James Franklin have to work with when he got to Vanderbilt? He got to 9 wins and a bowl victory in year two.

my expectations are being met....team is playing the entire game with a lot of energy and grit. We have a really good team - they continue to play at the same level of intensity as the OU game the VOLS will have a realistic chance of winning 7 or better this year.

I thought they played like warriors, especially Worley, no help from the OC. I was thinking he would not make it to the 4th quarter unless they reduce that bullrush. Bubbles, slants or any textbook method of slowing it down. They ran the read option several times and the right DE simply crashed down and caught Hurd in the backfield.Worley would still be running if he kept it. The defense stood toe to toe with a top team and did not blink. They can beat some teams in the east but they must figure out what they want to do offensively. Currently looks like an experiment, maybe due to all the new guys? Who knows OU may be the eventual NC?

Uh yeah, and if you look at the teams Vandy beat that year, its nowhere near impressive.....

Presbyterian
Missouri
Auburn (the 3 win team)
UMASS
Kentucky
Ole Miss
Tennessee
Wake Forest
NC State

Yeah, if Tennessee and Butch had that schedule this year, we would win 9 games too.

Wouldn't it be technically 8 wins and a draw following the 2nd Orange and White game this year?

Seriously, I'd love for the Vols to play Vandy's non-conference schedule and visa versa just once.
