Like most SEC fan bases, UT fans seem to operate at the extremes of criticism or inflated expectations. Although Dobbs had a nice performance and seemed to be very very cool under the pressure of leading a team at Alabama, let's take a step back from declaring him the next T Martin (insert any other successful UT QB).

In practice, Dobbs hasn't been as accurate passing the ball as he was Saturday. He might just be a "gamer" though. Who knows.

Secondly, Mizzou goes against a mobile QB everyday in practice. Plus, Mizzou probably has the fastest defense in the SEC.

Dobbs must consistently hit his marks when passing and the running game will have to be very good on Saturday to win.

I think the running game is solid. Mainly it's receivers and Dobbs getting the timing down. Too many drops last week

(#1) If the coaches have a good game plan (#2) If the receiver can catch & run, then I see us winning the game.

There were several dropped passes in the Alabama game that were catchable balls. Those catches would have given us the 1st down and possibly a t.d., depending on the yards after the catch.

Catch the ball & run with it and keep the chains moving. 3 & out is not a good game strategy.

I agree about expectations. I think he can and do fairly well but I don't know what to expect. I just hope he can avoid turnovers. Could have done without your info about him being inaccurate in practice. Way to dampen my enhtusiasm.:)

I think most of us are keeping things in perspective...im not expecting J-Dobbs to be Tee Martin or the next Johnny Football, but im hopeful that he can play well enough right now to get us 4 more wins. We wont know until Saturday how good he is right now, we will really not know the answer to that after 1 game...hopefully he plays well enough to lead this team to victory, and give us real hope for the future. Win or lose this week, we still have to keep things in perspective, he is a true freshman, he may make some good plays, but he will likely make some bad ones too. The most important thing is going to be those around him, the line protecting him, establishing the run, WR actually catching the ball when it hits them in the hands and the defense playing like they did against UGA and USC. He doesn't have to play perfect, just good enough, and I think he will, lets hope the rest of the team does as well.

Fact.
Although Dobbs had a nice performance and seemed to be very very cool under the pressure of leading a team at Alabama, let's take a step back from declaring him the next T Martin (insert any other successful UT QB).
Fiction. Few if any are doing exactly that. They are hoping a guy with good athleticism and great intelligence will play well and are excited about his opportunity.

In practice, Dobbs hasn't been as accurate passing the ball as he was Saturday. He might just be a "gamer" though.
? Have YOU been there to observe this supposed lack of accuracy? Even if you were, is it a chronic problem or isolated?

Secondly, Mizzou goes against a mobile QB everyday in practice.
Fiction. Mizzou like everyone else has a scout team that simulates the next opponent. If I am not mistaken, they have faced no more teams than UT that have good runners at QB. They've faced NO QB's who run as well as Mariota.

Plus, Mizzou probably has the fastest defense in the SEC.
Definitely fiction. An oft repeated myth but a myth none the less.

Dobbs must consistently hit his marks when passing and the running game will have to be very good on Saturday to win.
Fact... but no more so than against Auburn, Vandy, or UK.

Several reporters have talked about his accuracy in practice before. Nothing new.

Yes, Mizzou has one of the fastest and best D lines and linebackers in the country. This isn't even disputed.

Before a team prepares for game one, they run 1 v1s. The defense is well prepared for a mobile QB.

Have a citation? When were those reports?

Yes. It is. To the degree that they are "fast" it is because they have sacrificed size. But they are not faster than UF or USCe. They aren't much faster than Bama though they give up a lot of size.

You just can't always put a lot of merit in reports about a team that went 7-0 against the schedule Mizzou has had.

Mizzou may beat UT. But they will NOT overwhelm UT with talent. AT BEST, they will be the 6th most "talented" team UT has played.

Before a team prepares for game one, they run 1 v1s. The defense is well prepared for a mobile QB.

So what they did in August against Franklin who is a good but not great runner and Berkstresser who is not a great runner is a huge advantage to them now?

MOST D's play against mobile QB's. UT has and has gotten better at doing it.

Expectations High, understanding challenge high, Positives out waying negatives in rebuilding high. And lots of beer and porn to fill in the blanks along the way.
