Is it better to have an experienced Oline or Skill position?

I will compare 2007 vs 2008. 2007 was our last SECCG appearance and 2008 was the end of the Fulmer era and a losing season.

In 2007 our starting line consisted of 2 so. 2 jr. and 1 sr. The starting QB was a sr. who had started games as a freshman. Our starting WR group had 2 Jr's, including a 1000 yard receiver, several So. and a couple of talented Fr.
2 Sr TE's and a Jr RB who rushed for almost 1200 yards.

The 2007 offense averaged 32.5 ppg, 139 yards rushing, and 262.5 yards passing.

In 2008 our starting line consisted of 3 Jr's and 2 Sr's with all but 1 returning starters, so our offense should be better because we have an experienced line? but it wasn't. of the skill position players we only lost our starting QB but our numbers dropped drastically.

The 2008 offense averaged 17.3 ppg, 123 yards rushing, and 145.8 yards passing.

I know everyone is going to say it is because of the Clawfense, but it does go deeper then that, so we will compare 2012 to 2013.

2012 and 2013 basically had the same oline with the exception of Dallas Thomas.

2012 had a Jr QB who had started since he was a Fr and was an EE, WR group of 1 Sr, 3 Jr and a few So and Fr, a Sr TE and a Jr RB. Had a receiver go almost 1100 yards and one for almost 800, a TE go for 560 and a RB rush for 700 yards.

2012 offense averaged 36.2 ppg, 315 yards passing and 160 yards rushing.

2013 had a Jr QB who had a total of 2 or 3 career starts as a Fr and zero as So. WR group of 3 Fr, 3 So, a walkon Jr and another Jr who was out several games because of Injury. A Jr TE and a Sr and Jr RB. A Fr receiver leads the team in receiving with almost 500 yards, TE has 65 yards and RB has 990 yards.

2013 offense is averaging 23.5 ppg, 185 yards rushing per game and 162 yards passing per game.

With Worley starting as QB before injury, the offense averaged 27.8 ppg. since the Dobbs a Fr has taken over, the offense has averaged 12 ppg.

In 1989, 1990 , 1997 and 1998 we won the SEC Championship and in 2001, 2004, and 2007 we played in the SECCG and the common denominator of those teams is experienced and talented skill people.

Skill positions, and it isn't even close.

The Sullin Brothers would give our NFL line a run for their money.

I would take skill position players who have been in the same system under the same coach over experienced o-linemen.

All talent being equal, then experienced skill position players. An experienced QB can mask a lot of issues along an o-line.

I would take the O-line, we have had some great ones, right now all we have is potential. Bray made out Oline look a lot better than they was.

Before this season I would of said line but now i've seen how over rated the position is in college. Now had we had just 1 stud at any of the skill positions i think that could work with a great line. Imagine we had a great WR that any qb could just toss is up to. Or a true RB that bust one open... Truth is our o line did ok, we avg over 5 yrds a carry but none of our skill guys could take advantage of them.

Experience is nice, but ultimately it comes down to talent. I'd rather have inexperienced talent than less talented players who have a lot of starts under their belts.
