Or Anthony Hickey. For some reason Martin starts recruiting them and then slow plays these smaller point guards, then comes hard at the end and it's to late. Did it with Thompson and now is doing it with Emmanuel Owootoah. Last recruiting class, he signs 3 similar players and tries to make Armani Moore a PG which he is not. Stop blaming Pearl for no PG. Counzo has had chances at guys they would have Tennessee as a top 3 or 3 SEC team right now.

When Coach Zo passed on Hickey and signed Cheivous and Miller, he may have doomed his stay with the Vols.

And took Edwards who played power forward in Juco to start at wing. That hasn't worked yet and took another wing in Reece and took Armani and tried to make him a PG. Moore is an excellent wing prospect but not PG.

Well REESE is actually clocking quality minutes at the 4. Juco's take some time. Edwards was doing ok just wasn't playing the defense CCM wanted so that's why he's been limited. I agree on Moore though. The 2 is his spot that's where he needs to stay.

If it was defense, neither Reese nor Moore would be playing.

I can't figure out anything CCM has done to make the team better. Terrible offense, defense and no fire coming from the sideline.

Agree. They have 4 of the 5 pieces they need to have a decent team that might make the tourney. Yet they don't have the 5th piece that is the most important - PG. What's up with that? How does having 8 guys that can play wing positions help your team with no natural PG's at this level of competition? The team has zero identity and no leaders. It has a non-motion offense. It has no zone defense to cover for ineffective man defenders like Golden, McBee and Reese.

I don't get what Zo is trying to do and who he is trying to do it with. He only has 7-8 SEC level players on the team, yet, he plays 10 guys with crazy substitution patterns.

My two biggest complaints are the PG recruiting and not changing defenses. But Pearl and Cal do the same thing- they mainly play man to man and refuse to play zone. CCM was a dynamite defender in college, and somehow I think he believes he can teach all of his players to play like him. Obviously he can't.

He has had some tough circumstances with inheriting inexperienced players and having to find a PG quickly and also Maymon getting injured. But I agree that he had last class to fix the PG problem and failed to do it. He must get it fixed if he wants to have a great team next year.

Keep in mind that CCM said he doesnt need a pure PG for his system.
Pearl didn't have a lot of luck, but he at least recruited top level PGs.

Where are they then? Seeing as he has only been gone for a couple of years we should still have some of the top level PGs are on the roster.

The best PG Pearl coached was the one he inherited from Buzz. He never signed one that was anywhere close to the caliber of CJ Watson.
