I know I'm generally recognized as a negavol, but I am actually feeling positive about this hire for a few reasons. First, he's not Dooley 2.0 like some jackwagons are posting. Dooley came to UT as a perrenial loser as a HC. He brought nothing to the table except SEC roots and a last name everyone could recognize. Jones is actually the opposite of Dooley. He has been a proven winner at the programs he took over. His first season a Cincy he struggled, but then rebounded with 2 very solid seasons, which shows that his teams improve year to year - something we never got with Dools. Also, I love the fact that he may be able to pull some kids out of the state of Ohio in reruiting. We've had Ohio studs in the past - Peerless, Ben Martin, Munoz, and I'm sure there are others. Ohio is a good HS football state, and we could be doing better there. I believe he could help us in that regard.

All said, I'm ok with this hire. He wasn't my first or een second choice, but I believe Hart did the best he could to pull in the big names and was turned down because of the state of the program right now. I will not lecture anyone else to "get behind our coach" because I believe everyone has to come to that place on their own. But as for me, I'm looking forward to signing day and Spring ball.

You had me right up until the part about Hart doing the best that he could.

I'm with you Fade. This was about the fourth name on my list, and for the record that list never included Gruden because he was always a pipe dream. This was a solid hire, and although I would have been more excited about Fedora, Gundy, or Strong I'm certainly not crying. Six years as a head coach and at least a share of four conference championships should be sufficient to shut people up; of course, this is Volnation and the imates typically seem to be running the asylum. If you want more positives, lets try top twenty scoring defenses each of the last two seasons and a balanced attack that typically averages over 5,000 yards a season. He didn't luck into a 50-27 overall record as head coach; he earned it. Let's see what he can do before we write him off as a bust.

I actually think he did do the best he could.

There is something not connecting between Hart, Cheek and the Boosters. It will come to surface eventually.

Yes, I feel good about this hire also. He seems to have the fire to get this program back where it needs to be, and from what I've heard, his players really liked him, which is a definite plus. Anxious to hear the press conference coming up soon.

GBO & GO CBJ. Let's see what this coach can do. May be a jewel of a hire. Won't know for 2 - 3 years but for $3 million a year he better put UT back in contention for the SEC East Division Title & at least compete with all those other teams in the SEC besides Kensucky....lol.

I'm just glad the search is over. It's good to get someone new and maybe he can bring something fresh to the school.

Without a doubt there is a disconnect there and I think most of it lies with Cheek, but Hart is the AD and his job to make the hire.

If he was getting pressure from Cheek, then he should have made it known. More than one way to get information out.

like the new tude! I think we have a good coach, lets go big orange!!

Good post, Fade. Waitin' for the presser. CBJ resembles Sgt. Carter from Gomer Pyle. Like the tough look. No more hair guy shots of a crosseyed coach. Methinks there's a new sheriff in K-town.
