That is the quote from Mark Hovanic on the post game show Saturday. I was driving home down Highway 70 to avoid the wreck, and nearly drove off the side of a mountain when I heard this.

Have I ever played? No. Have I ever coached? No.

But I would bet $ that I have set foot in that stadium 100 more times than a large majority of players that are currently or have previously played for UT.

Just because we haven't played doesn't mean that we do not have the right to be embarrassed about this loss, and this season. It's the fans who keep this program going. Without us, there would be no program. Of course, it goes the other way, too.

I'm sorry, but he has no right to say that at all!

You're right, 88. I heard it, too, and it really crawled all over me. Apparently, that's a hot button for him.

Look, I understand it's different for a player. I know most of us fans don;t know what it's like being a player for a program like UT, but don't try to alienate us like that. That's not a good idea if you are on the radio talking to fans every week, even if you are on state run radio.

I heard that too and we just about drove off the road. He was implying that people thought the players were trying to embarrass us and then gave his little pep talk about they put on the pads, work hard etc etc, and I agree that they do.

It's not that they're trying to embarrass, but they have been embarrassing this year. No two ways about it. Then he turned around and tried to blame everything on our defense.

Can we not get someone else to do those calls??

If that was what he was implying, he sure wnet about it the wrong way. I don't think anyone thinks the players and coaches are doing these things on purpose, but come on, you can't alienate fans like that.

I agree...they need someone else in there. But he, along with Wilkerson, are very safe and will defend UT to the hilt. They're prefect for state run radio.

Ummm....embarrassment and anger are not limited to just fans. After the actions displayed post game Saturday with the players, I'd say they're just as embarrassed and angry as the fans. I think everyone is angry and embarrassed. The coaches and players have more control about NOT feeling this way because it is THEIR actions that have caused this. But implying that fans have no right to be embarrassed means they have no right to feel pride after a win either.

I'm not 100% sure that was exactly what he was saying, but I remember that I wanted to turn around and hunt him down. You can tell that he's a yes man.

I almost called in and gave them a piece of my mind, but then I realized that it was state run radio and I would never get on the air. LOL

:biggrin2:

I don't think they would let me on the air either, my southern accent isn't thick enough.

If I called in, it would only be to talk to Mark. He needs a good talking to. He even said to call in and call him stuff if we want on the air. I should've taken him up on that. The last caller kind of let him have it and then he went back into the "if you've never run through the T, you shouldn't criticize" crap....

You're right, it goes both ways, like I said.

If you're gonna have people like that say that fans have no right to be embarrassed, then don;t charge us for tickets, concessions, etc. Only then would we not have more than just a passing interest. Otherwise, don;t tell us not to be embarrassed.

I guess he means we shouldn't celebrate a win, either.

Can't wait to hear what kind of response he gets this week when he brings up that crap again.

Wish Bubba was our OL coach! Or Harry Galbreath?

Fellas, remember, Hovanic is just a pop-off run the mouth yankee. He came south when he was recruited to Tennessee. And you know what they say, once they get hear they never leave. That's fine, but don't tell us how you did it in Cleveland or New York, we don't want to hear it.
Now as far as the loss, yes it hurts, I sat beside Cutler's father and he told me that Tennessee talked to his son 3 times and then stopped all together. Hard to beleive that our staff would give up like that. It left me to wonder why? :banghead:
Bubba Miller, hey that's something to look into. Good idea. I think he's here in Nashville. I don't know if he has done any coaching, but he has been around good coaching most of his playing days. Same goe's for Harry Galbreath. :matrix:

Come on . . . It's not that bad. ...And you can have Larry Munson. Munson is OK, but I want to shoot myself every time he throws to Loran down on the field.

Blob is not good, but I'll take him over Larry Munson anyday. At least you can understand Blob. Munson is incoherent half the time. He'll call a play and then start babbling about something that happened in 1938.
