Hey everyone!

Was just thinking and thought id share. My wife is a northern Illinois alum and is turning an Orange fan but she doesn't like always hearing me taking about football so I thought I'd try to get some feedback from Vol fans!

Everyone has their own tradition with Tennessee. Everyone has their own personal journey as a Vols fan.

You know what I am saying?

The topic of Bill Battle intrigued me to do some research on him and his players. A picture of Larry Sievers catching a pass got me thinking more...

I was born in 81'. I remember Majors, Cobb , Webb, Kelly. But not much before that. But my heyday was the 90's capped off with a trip to the NC my junior year of high school. Pretty sweet, yeah!

So back to tradition. It got me thinking about the fan culture. Not the bickering and getting pissed off for not winning every game but the way fans present themselves more directly.

Used to, fans wore suits and ties. Now it's a mix of everything. So watching the student section is one place to see new trends of Gameday fashion and fun. I feel the bigger the program the crazier and more eclectic their fans and students get. Fans with big heads, crazy sunglasses, etc.

That's what I remember most as a fan growing up when I did. The pageantry, the fans dressing up and being on the cutting edge of fan fashion. Not so much the game as a child and teenager, but the experiences, the sights!

We have Neyland!

We have a crazy color ORANGE!

That place SHOULD/and/or/COULD be a lot crazier of an atmosphere. The only time I see hints of it is when #1 Alabama or #1 Florida or #1 Georgia or someone #1 not Tennessee is playing us. I wish it was all the time no matter.

I know the energy and passion has to be raised on the field for it to leak into the stands but I feel us as fans can do better. Make Neyland what it's supposed to be.

Rowdy Volunteers havin a hell of of time whooping everyone's ass!

I miss the excitement of the culture we used to have.

Looking at Oregon football and and duke fans and whatnot, that's what I personally miss most. That energy!

I'd love to see the neon orange and white nose paint and all on fans.

And I'm loving Butch Jones right now!

The energy! The old players! The new players!

Pumped!!!

But that's the sights and sounds that paint my tradition of UT football.

Can't wait for the O&W game! Then on to the new season!

Go Vols!!!!

Some of it is that we as fans became a victim of our own success and couldn't enjoy the season if we lost a game or two. Once we won the national championship, we got spoiled and expected that success almost every year and couldn't enjoy the season in itself. College football runs in cycles and it's about our time to rise back up among the elite and start challenging for the East, SEC and who knows from there. I want us to win every game and expect greatness from our coaches, but as I've gotten older I've learned to enjoy everything about the football season. Hell, we only get 7 or 8 home games a year. I'll be there and I can't wait for the Butch Jones era to begin!

This x's 100. All programs go through down cycles, think about Bama, Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, Penn St., all have gone through "down" cycles. We have been there and I am 100% confident we have finally found the coach to bring us back to the pionnacle in Butch Jones. It's still a few years away but he will have us competing for Championships once again.

Andy Holt was the best UT President in my lifetime flowed closely by Ed Boling and Joe Johnson.

I have to say I just left Wilderness at the Smokies (Spring Break with the kids ) and the alabubba to Big Orange ratio was at least 10:1. Win or lose, I'm always gonna be sporting the Orange. It's embarrassing how the fan base has gotten so quiet. I'm as frustrated with losing (and as excited about the upcoming year) as anyone, but this head hanging attitude in the fan base is just wrong. GET YOUR ORANGE OUT, DAMN IT!

Tennessee's down cycles are nothing compared to the schools you mentioned. Hell, some schools would love to be going 5-7..instead of like 0-10 (Florida) or vacating entire seasons (Bama).
