Let's start by saying this, we played a division 2 team that I believe was 1-9.
1. First and foremost, I thought we would come out sloppy, and we did NOT. Our first 11 field goals were assisted. And we had zero turnovers the first half, six for the game total.
2. Tusculum lack of size showed, as Maymon, Stokes, and McRae, and really the team as a whole, got any shot they wanted. Stokes missed some easy ones early, but Maymon looked sharp, and focused. Lots of layups though point blank, and I thought we moved well offensively.
3. Shooting the ball we seemed to pick up where we left off vs. Virginia. There were only a handful of rushed outside shots, but in defense of them, they were open, and in good offensive flow. We were 57% for the game, 35 for 61, and 11 for 23 from 3, 17 for 22 from the line. These numbers, along with assist to turnover ratio show we moved it well, and in nice rhythm.
4. I am totally OK with playing this team right before SEC play begins, it was good to show a few different looks, get some players some minutes, and also rest some as well. Hubbs sat today because he aggravated his shoulder vs Virginia, and Richardson didn't start due to being late for a team function.
Nobody played over 25 mins, and 13 players got on the floor. It was a chance to get some live action in and keep off rust before we play LSU Tuesday.
5. Fat Tire player of the game could've gone a few different ways really, McRae or Maymon would be most peoples choice, I'm giving it to Barton. His shots were off of assists and moved well without the basketball. 14 pts, 5 for 8 from the field, 4-7 from 3, with 4 rebounds and 3 assists in 22 minutes. This is exactly what we need from him! Could this be a spark, I hope.
Overall I thought this was a great time for a so called exhibition game, we hadn't played since Monday, and have a tough game Tuesday at LSU, so it was good to rest, keep a little rust off, And see the ball go in, a lot. Sorry it's so short of a report, but it was nothing to really over analyze, and dive too much into.
