Britain Abolishes Itself | The American Conservative

As part of the drive towards institutionalizing same-sex marriage—which is being spearheaded not by radical gays but by our posh, foppish Conservative prime minister, David Cameron—words such as “husband” and “wife” and “father” and “mother” are being airbrushed from much official government documentation. So welfare and immigration forms will shortly be scrubbed clean of any mention of the w-word or the h-word, in favor of more “neutral” terms such as “spouse” or “partner” because, as the Daily Telegraph reports, the government believes that once same-sex marriage is legalized “it would be confusing to refer to husbands and wives.”

Fathers are already disappearing. At the end of May, the National Health Service, the largest employer in Britain—and the fifth largest in the world—took the decision to excise the six-letter f-word from a pamphlet on rearing children that it has been giving to mothers- and fathers-to-be for the past 14 years. The pamphlet will no longer refer to fathers following a complaint from one person—yes, that is all it takes to airbrush people from history in modern Britain—who was concerned that such terminology is “not inclusive of people in same-sex relationships.” From now on the pamphlet will refer to mothers and “partners.” Dads are so 20th century.

Dads are obsolete in Great Britain.

I thought the Olympic Opening Ceremonies were particularly insightful when they actually devoted a song and dance number to celebrate their National Health Service.

If a nation of 70 million or so can have a NHS that is the 5th largest employer in the world, imagine how large an US bureaucracy could be.

Exactly the thought I had. We sure have a lot to look forward to.

I love the commercial about the neo-natal incubators we donated to their National Health Service.

isn't this taking away the "rights" of fathers to be recognized by the government? NHS is a hate organization - who can I protest.

I honestly thought that if the scotus overturned the aca then a single payer system would truly have been next on the docket next time the dems got a super majority. Universal coverage has been on that agenda for decades, and if mandatory participation in the private market was out of the question then there's only one way to go from there.

However I don't think a full nhs style system would ever be politically possible no matter how many democrats get elected

I'm in favor... by taking the masculine and feminine terms away in place of a neutral term, just think how much easier it will be to learn languages like Spanish. This has much more value than a centuries old, endearing term like father or dad. :ermm:

Yeah, NHS is relatively rare as a model. AMA would pitch a hissy (as would nearly everyone else).

Imagine your Docs office was the equivalent of the DMV - mass riots ensue.

Only 1/2 sarcastic - if fathers lose their right to be recognized then they've lost some symbolic meaning all in the name of not offending someone else.

seems the simple solution is to leave father on the forms and add "other" or "partner" or whatever.

definitely sarcastic about NHS being a hate organization and protesting.

I don't see anything wrong with this. I'd welcome it much more than congress defining marriage such as in DOMA.

Are you a father? I'm still wondering how I would introduce myself to my kid's teachers. "Hi, I'm his mother's partner!" Doesn't work for me, I'm Papa and Daddy to my kids, even though only 3 of the 6 are mine biologically.

Which brings up the next issue, I'm not the partner of the mother of the oldest 2 since we divorced 19 years ago. Yet, I'm still the father and still have rights where they are concerned.

That said, I have no issue with and would like to see a better legal arrangement for same sex couples to ensure they have similar rights for their kids. I don't care what it is called but I don't think that I need to give up any rights for them to have equality.

When we delivered both my kids I had to wear a scrub top that said coach on it instead of dad. I asked the nurse if I could have one that said dad both times and was told they didn't have them.

I love it when in an attempt to avoiding discriminating the minority they crap on the majority.

I almost refused to wear it the second time but I could tell my wife wasn't in the mood for my crap so I reluctantly put it on.
