I like Jazz, I like it all. I would list some of favorite opera arias, but I think it would be a waste of everyone's time!

Dave Matthews, Scott Miller, Tori Amos, Howie Day, John Mayer, all the heavy stuff JSB listed (except maybe Dream Theater), non-cheesey and non-"Go America, let's go save the universe" country, some rap (Outkast, Eminem), some house music, and about 100 other artists depending on the mood.

Has anybody seen the John Mayer show on VH-1? That dude is really, really funny. Among the things I saw on the episode I watched were him getting on stage at a Honky Tonk with Trick Daddy and playing the Crazy Train riff while Trick Daddy rapped.

Also, he had a vignette where he held a mock focus group with some really ditzy girls. When one of them asked if he really wrote his own songs he told them that it was a big secret in the recording industry that all love songs were written by a wonderful man named Richard Marx.

I saw John Mayer live this summer. He played all his pop crap, and then
after that, he told everybody to leave that didn't wanna hear good rock music. He then went into a 20 minute version of Voodoo Chile...I gained alot of respect for him that night.

Grateful Dead
The Beatles
Widespread Panic
Dave Matthews
Rolling Stones
Bruce Hornsby
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rage Against The Machine

The true test of any musician is how they play live. I'm sick of all the recent artists who rely on the studio to do 90% of the work for them.

lol thats ironic......i like nearly all country except toby keith

:eek:lol: Me too. He's a good example of what I was referring to with "cheesey Go-America, let's go save the universe" country.

Wolf, if you like good live performance (albeit more subdued than most of the bands you've listed), check out Howie Day if he comes around. He does some crazy one-man loops with his own voice and guitar -- sometimes layering up to 6 or 8 parts on top of himself. Oh, and I'd add Phish to your list -- what a show, and brilliant musicians.

I am getting sick of most of the new artists all together. There are some exceptions, but I am SO tired of bands playing 3 chords over and over and the lead singers that can't carry a tune to save their life. It is getting out of hand if you ask me....

Won't be able to see Phish anymore...

That's quite alright. I've seen Phish so many times it makes me sick. I really don't care for some of their stuff.

When Jerry died, a lot of people went the Phish route or the Widespread Route. Most of my friends went for Phish whereas I had been a Panic fan for a long time. I got flooded by a lot of Phish music and actully enjoyed some of it. However, a lot of their music always sounded like 4 people playing 4 different songs at once. It got terribly disjointed and almost dissonant at times. It's like Trey would purposely try to get so complex that it almost came off as a musical arrogance and it didn't give off a good vibe.

Widespread Panic on the other hand has remarkable song writing skill and just a better groove IMO. A lot of people on this board who don't know much about Widespread Panic, but dig good music with some southern rock roots,I think would really like Widespread.

I will say one thing about Trey... I've seen him with Dave Matthews a few times and he was good. At Bonnaroo last year, Trey and Dave sat down and did an acoustic duo of Phish's song, "Waste." It was quite phenominal.
