Yeah so I pretty much stole this idea from SoonerFans.com. But who cares?

What's everybody's top 5 favorite cities and why? You can say Knoxville... But give us a reason other than the University of Tennessee.

1. Knoxville
Not just the Vols, but all my friends, lots of nice people, affordable, lot of different things to do, but without the "big city" problems.

2. Myrtle Beach, SC
Family vacation site, very relaxed, lots of fun stuff to do, great seafood, and the best strip club I've ever been too, lol!

3. Fort Myers, FL
National Hockey Convention every year, GREAT weather, great nitelife, very relaxed.

4. Orlando, FL
Disney World, Disney Wide World of Sports, Disney Downtown, Fantasy Island

5. Johnson City, TN
Lots of really nice people, small town atmosphere with a Best Buy, Theatres, Restaurants, and mall. Great minor league baseball.

Honorble Mention:
Tempe, AZ
Charleston, SC
St. Louis, MO
Cincinnati, OH
Columbia, SC

I'm heading to Vegas in March, my Top 5 may change after then, HAHA! :naughty:

1 . Nashville. It is just large enough to have a lot of big city amenities but small enough that you know your neighbors. Also, I think we have a laid-back pace of living in Nashville.

2. Savannah, GA. Beautiful city and I am a history freak.

3. Charleston, SC. Same reasons as #2.

4. Naples, FL. I figured I'd have to throw a beach town in here. There are a lot that I could name here but the past few years I have spent at least a month in Naples every year. I prefer it in the summers because it is not nearly as crowded with snow birds and I do not mind the heat. IMO the beaches on the gulf are much nicer that anything on the Atlantic or Pacific coasts. Also, Naples does not seem to attract a lot of families like Destin, Hilton Head, etc. and I like some peace and quiet whe I go to the beach.

5. Santa Fe, NM. Another beautiful, historic city. Lots of great Mexican food and art galaries.

Honorable mentions: Highlands, NC; St. Simon's Island, GA; Edisto, SC; Boston, MA; and San Franciso, CA.

Salt Lake City: Clean and gorgeous
Denver: more of the same
Austin: lots to do and great live music
Nashville: more of the same
Lexington: small and safe. Great place to raise a family. Not much good live music so I had to push it down the list.

Honorable mention: any town with a great ski resort. I grew up in coastal GA, and spent half of my life on the beach. The food is better in the deep south, but I have discovered a passion for the slopes.

1. Missoula, Montana

Biggest city actually in the Rockies (all of 75k), really cool people, liberal attitude, place the 60s went to grow up instead of die, booze 30% cheaper for some weird reason, Moose Drool beer brewed locally, a bar whose t-shirts say, "Liquor up front, Poker in the Rear" (think about it), another 2 bars owned by friends, two rivers run through it, regularly get bands who normally only play major arenas thanks to the rep of the town and one of my best friends- a promoter, the University of Montana, the University of Montana Grizzlies (1-AA but have had a 21k yearly attendance average for 10 years- more than most of the MAC), very nice things which smell oddly skunk-like grow profusely in surrounding mountains, only an hour from Glacier National Park, drops to 55 degrees after dark in Summer so you can wear shorts in the day and sweaters at night

2. Flagstaff, AZ

Like a smaller Missoula perched on the side of a 11k peak, my brother lives there, about 40 different micro and major ecosystems within 20 miles, another place the 60s went to grow up

3. Amsterdam

Absence of certain idiotic laws, beautiful buildings and canals, amazing galleries and museums, free bikes posted around city for anybody's use, magic bon bons, understandably mellow people, low crime, beautiful girls in negligees standing in lighted windows on certain streets

4. St. Just-in-Penwith, Cornwall

Funky, foggy little town about 2 miles from Lands End, another place where 60s went to grow up, scrumpy, amazing cliffs and sea scapes, 3 great pubs and 2 great friends

tie-5. Bend, OR

At the edge of the high desert on the foothills of the Cascades, world-class fishing rivers, doesn't drizzle on you 500 days a year, interestingly strange mix of people, hard to get to but that's also a good thing, not so many DEA pinheads roaring around on 4-wheelers every Fall like in the Coastal Range

tie-5. Knoxville

Beautiful woods and mountains nearby, so many restaurants the Food Channel is based there, some family live there and others in school at UT, sports, traffic sucks but I'm rarely driving when in town, not too close to Pigeon Forge

1. Lexington, Virginia-The Blue Ridge and not to mention VMI & Washington and Lee College! Oh yeah two guys named Lee and Jackson are buried there!

2. Memphis, Tennessee-I have always loved the atmosphere of Memphis. I am salivating thinking about Corky's!

3. Harpers Ferry, West Virginia-Still stuck in the antebellum era it is a beautiful city.

4. Washington D.C.-Beautiful city if you stay around the mall. You can get a lot of bargains on junk on the mall also!

5. Charleston, S.C.-Even more Civil War history and the restaurant California Dreamin'.

6. Savannah, GA-All I am going to say is Beautiful and Forrest Gump!

7. Destin, Fl-I prefer it over Hilton Head Island.

All about the coastal towns of Charlestonand Savannah. I love the towns of Annapolis and Alexandria as well. I'm all about the old towns of a lot of history. Williamsburg, VA is great as well.

Wailea, Maui, Hawaii - The best beaches, resorts, food, diving, and golf on an island that is surely as close to paradise as God will ever allow in this life. If you've never been to Hawaii, all I can say is: GO. Worth every penny, even if you had to save for 3 or 4 years to get there.

Key West Florida - Take all the good parts of New Orleans, float 'em out on a cruise ship, dump on some sand, point it toward the sunset, and then ride through on a scooter. Oh, don't forget to add daquiris. A lot of them. Hey, if you don't like it, you can always escape to Cuba, it's only 90 miles away.

Hot-lanta - If you can't find something to do there, you need to just put yourself out of your misery.
(Tie)
Tampa, FL - Very much like Atlanta, but a little smaller and on the coast. Very young, tons to do, tons to eat, lots of history. Worth the trip to "people watch" in Ybor City alone. Oh, and don't forget Legends Field and the Pirate Ship. Also, home to some of the most famous "adult venues" in the country (if you're into that sort of thing)

Charleston, SC - Best food I've ever had. Throw in the history, coastline, and entertainment, and you've got yourself one heckuva weekend vacation spot.

New Orleans, LA - Not NEARLY as dirty or crowded as people make it out to be, unless it's Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, or New Years. Incredible dining, 5-star accommodations, an insane selection of music, art, gambling, and history. Have not been back since the 'cane, but am very eager to contribute to the rebuilding process with a pilgrimmage.

Portland, OR - don't listen to 2345, Oregon is a BEAUTIFUL place with tons to do. Life is different in the northwest. Music, skiing, dining, breweries, wineries, rainforests, and some very unique coastline makes this state a "must visit."

And, of course, Knox-vegas. The entire city is painted orange and white, great boating, biking, hiking and golf are nearby, perhaps more good restaurants "per capita" than anywhere else in the world, and it just feels "like home," dadgummit. I came back to raise my family here, and so should you.

Others:
Negril, Jamaica - wow for the beaches and resorts

Seaside, FL - don't believe the negative vibes from Panama and Destin, the Emerald coast has the nicest beaches in the Eastern US

Washington, DC - you just have to go if you're an American. Go see the center of the world's political power, cry at the one place where men are SUPPOSED to, and prepare yourself to be amazed at the multicultural variety

Hilton Head, SC - Anyone say, Golf?

Miami, FL - Where the stars go to play. Take your wallet.

That's awsome!!! Hope you enjoy your trip back!!! :clapping:

I havent been many places but I'll try to get 5!!!

1- Gatlinburg, TN I spent my honeymoon there in 98 and fell in love with it. We have been back 2 or 3 times a year ever since. Now we will go more since its only 1 1/2 hrs. away!!! :dance2:

2- Knoxville, TN Besides the Vols, I love the restaurants, shopping and it being so close to the mountains!!! Its a beautiful town!!!

3- Atlanta, GA There is something beautiful about the downtown area. It is full of energy!!! It reminds me alot of New Orleans but cleaner and it dosent smell as bad.

4- Bay St. Louis, MS- It really is no more but I use to love this little city. I hope it rebuilds but it will never be the same. It was full of mansions on the beach, some up to 100 years old. They are gone now. It had wonderful restaurants and antiques.

5- New Orleans, LA- Well, last but not least. It will be great again. It had its problems and some parts I was scared to go through but it will always be home. I was born and raised on the bayou with all the fishermen. My dad built their boats and I was raised to love the water. It is not home any more but I will visit!!!!!!

Honorable mention: Las Vegas, I went there in 2004 and it was great!!!!! I hope to return soon. If anyone goes spend some time in the mountains. We were in the mtns. during the day and walked the strip at night!!!

That reminds me, when in Vegas visit Hoover Dam as well. Short drive from there.

Pretty much any city or town between Knoxville and Asheville, NC. I haven't been to many places in the U.S., but you'd be hard-pressed to find a better looking area than the Smokey Mountains. My opinion, anyway. I'd like to live out there someday.

I haven't been to many big cities... drive through Atlanta when I was 5 on the way to Orlando/Disney, so I don't remember much about them. Also went to Myrtle Beach a year later. Don't remember much, and don't care much at all about a beach to begin with.

Nashville is alright... I couldn't live in an area like that though, large cities that is. I like the peace and quiet of the country. I've never stopped in Knoxville, just drove through it several times. And yes, that means I've never been to any kind of UT sporting event. That's what you get for being young and having a Dad that's an Ohio State fan.

Pretty much my favorite cities and towns are the ones I live in or that are around here, it's home.

I would like to have a vacation home in Townsend one day. Peaceful and close enough to see Vols, Gatlinburg, etc.

As a kid I watched 2 old guys use a pickup truck and a chain to drag a 150 lb catfish up on the boat ramp below Pickwick Dam- does that count?

Me! One of my best friends is from Pickwick, and I've had a great time on the lake there -- sailing, campfire. . . .etc. There's some BBQ place that we always went to, but I forget the name (Pig something?) He'll be back there next year, so I'm sure it won't be long before I return. I do, however, have a little more "fondness" for the East Tennessee water, maybe it's the mountains around that give it the advantage. Or. . . .some other organized sporting adventures. . . .maybe an alma mater. . . .

Knoxville...A city that doesn't seem big and out of control. It's more like a large town.

Myrtle Beach, Savannah, Denver, Nashville, and Indianapolis.

1. Washington DC. I was stationed just outside of DC. Beautiful around the mall in the spring. Lots to do and see close by.

2. Murfreesboro, TN. Lived most of my life there before moving to Fayetteville. Close to Nashville, but away from the crowds. (used to be)

3. Gatlinburg and surrounding towns. Love the mountains, anytime of year. We usually vacation there.

4. Denver, CO. I went there for 10 days (2 years ago) with the company I work for. Got our work done and still had time for seeing some sights.

5. Jackson, MS. My dad grew up in the area. When I was a kid we would go there to visit his aunts and uncles. Had 1 uncle that lived way back in the woods, closest neighbor was maybe 5 miles away. Loved deer hunting there and walking back to the old home place.

1. San Fransisco...great food, terrible weather....lots to do....but have always had fun when i'm there...pluss Nappa Valey and Monterey aren't far....cool place.
2. Chicago....GREAT Food...even worse weather, in the winter anyway...and you got to love Wrigleyville!!!
3. Charleston, SC....awesome town, mini New Orleans....
4. New Orleans....never, i mean never, had a bad time there....
5. Tempe, AZ....if it had Neyland Stadium, it'd be #1.....great town, and GREAT scenery, if you know what i mean....
6. Knoxville, TN....and it's not higher on the list cause a lot has changed since i lived there almost 10 years ago...no more Library and Lap, no more Hawkeyes...man, those were the days....but there's still Gus's Good Times Deli...and that counts for somethin'.
7. Memphis, i'm from there, and hated it when i lived there, but the city has gotten a lot better in the last 15 years, with the baseball stadium, peabody place etc...and i love the rendeavouz....mmmmmm.
8. Marigot Bay, St. Lucia....warm water, great sunsets, and great food....this probabaly should be no. 1, but i just thought of it and i dont' feel like going back and changing the list....

and for those that mentioned Pickwick...been there several times when i was in high school...camping, boating etc...and drinking underage, you got to love that!
