I'm not wanting to get into the argument of who is the best of all time or right now or who has been more valuable to the movie industry, I'd just like to know who is your personal favorite and why. Mine by far is Christopher Nolan and not because of Batman. I know a lot of his movies has some plot "problems" (as does most movies nowdays) but he has been really consistent; nothing sucks. Even his first one (Following) was worth watching. I'd say the new Batman was his most disappointing one and it was still pretty good. If you don't have a favorite I'd like to hear your take on Nolan.

I also like Ridley Scott I think he's underated

Martin Scorsese. I don't think I know of a Scorsese movie or show that isn't terrific. It's way past time for him to make another gangster movie though.

Less obvious choices include Wes Anderson, Judd Apatow, and the late John Hughes.

Ben Affleck is a better director than actor.

Guy Ritchie tops for me. Snatch, Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels, and Rock N Rolla are 3 of my favorite movie.

Sam Raimi and Kevin Smith round out my top 3.

A huge Stanley Kubrick fan too. RIP

Shout out to the king of zombies, George A. Romero those his work of late has been pretty dreadful.

As far as resumes go, Kubrick gets my vote.

The Nolan Batman movies are grossly overrated IMO. The last one was awful.

Hayao Miyazaki - Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, Castle in the Sky are fantastic movies. The man is a legend.
Akira Kurosawa - Seven Samurai, Yohimbo, Ran, Rashamon, Kageshuma. Easily one of the most influential and revered directors of all time.
Alfred Hitchhock - Psycho, Vertigo, North by Northwest. All classics. One of the best of all-time.
Christopher Nolan - Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, The Prestige, Memento. Arguably the best of the modern generation.
The Coen Brothers - The Big Lebowski, True Grit, No Country for Old Men, Fargo, O' Brother Where Art Thou?. Arguably the best of the modern generation.
Kubrick, Tarantino, Scorsese, Spielberg and Coppala all rank among the best as well.

Sheesh! Where's Francis Ford Coppola(Godfather), James Cameron(Terminator), Robert Zemeckis(Back to the future), Sam Raimi(Evil Dead), Tim Burton(Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands), Ron Howard, Clint Eastwood?

I'm gonna have to go with Spielberg as my favorite if you're going to make me chose but I'd rather not.
