I was very emotionally moved while reading "By the Grace of the Game" by Dan Grunfeld, son of Ernie Grunfeld. Ernie is the only known U.S sports figure who is second-generation Holocaust. This story is autobiographical but also tells the story of Ernie Grunfeld growing up and prior to his family moving to the United States from Romania. It describes the unfathomable story of Ernie's mother's survival of the Holocaust. I graduated from UT as Ernie was playing and marveled at him then and more so now. The names of the butchers and barbarians that crossed his mother's life are unfortunately all too familiar.
