Watching the Boise State game the other day, they made a few comments about win % and such leading up to the game. Sure, Boise State has a lot of wins, and I wish to take nothing away from them, but I was curious how teams actually stack up when you consider where their wins are coming from. I was actually a little surprised by what I found. Since it was so easy, I decided to go ahead and do it for the majority of P5 programs.
Here's what I found:
*all info according to winspedia; ties thrown out
**if your team isn't listed, it's because they have an overall losing record, so I assume they don't have any fans lurking or curious anyway (Vandy)
Here are P5 teams (+Boise State) ranked according to win %

Now let's pick it apart a little. Ranked by P5 Win %
Boise State drops from #1 to #35
The Top 10 jumps around a little, but the basic same teams, with UGA jumping in
Tennessee actually stays in the same spot at #11.
UNC #34 to #20 and UCLA jumps from #27 (win%) to #16 (P5 win%) for the biggest jump.
West Virginia has the biggest drop from #21 (win%) to #33 (P5 win%)

Boise State can't rank highly in total wins as they are relatively new program, but here it stands:
Michigan jumps up to the top, passing Ohio State and Boise State
The Top 10 virtually stays intact, with Tennessee jumping into the #10 spot compared to #11 in winning %.
West Virginia #14, #17Virginia Tech, and #21 Pittsburgh have the biggest jumps when opponent and % are not considered.

This next chart is purely total P5 Wins.
Obviously Boise State drops to the bottom.
Oklahoma surges to #1
Nebraska jumps from #9 to #2
Tennessee jumps one to #10
From the original chart, UNC has the biggest jump from #34 (win%) to #15 (P5 wins)
West Virginia is the biggest loser, dropping from #21 (win%) to #42 (P5 wins)

Here are the Total # of NON-FBS Wins Claimed (aka fraud wins):
Not a huge shock, but the most recent teams to join the P5 all lead the way,
as the dissolved big east teams each take the first 4 spots with fake wins.
Boise State comes in at #11 in non-fbs wins, but is top 6 in % of non-fbs wins
UCLA and LSU claim the least amount of cupcakes.
While the #10 fraud team Lville (202) and the #46 Oklahoma team (107) only have
a difference of 95 wins between them, the jump from #10 to #1 is 120 wins. Essentially,
a few teams are claiming way more of these than the rest.

Conclusion:
Boise State's record actually compares a little better than I thought it would. It was kind of fun to dive into each of these teams and see where they do or don't stack up historically. With the SEC getting a massive TV deal, leaving the rest of the P5 in the dust, I'm curious to see if the PAC or B12 will add a team like Boise State in an attempt to broaden their appeal.
