Can someone explain to me the FCS system. #1 and undefeated Sam Houston State playing on the road at James Madison. Why are they not the #1 seed and playing at home throughout?

Seeding is not based upon polls. A committee seeds the teams. Their strength of schedule was not as strong as the top 4 seeds.

Just to add to the discussion, once the top 8 teams have been decided to receive the first round bye, teams 9-24 are paired based off geography. The host team is the one in each pairing that bid the highest to host. The minimum bid is $30,000. It's possible to have the #9 and #10 team play each other in the first round. It's also possible for the #24 team to host if their bid was high enough.

Seeding. Sam Houston State didn't play a team with a winning record until the last game of the season. Their game tonight shows their seeding....

FCS knows their ****. 24-team playoff.

Go Eastern!

Seriously? And we thought the FBS was ruled by money. That explains a lot. I would have never guessed they did that. Makes their regular season meaningless almost.

Yes and no...there are 10 conference champions that qualify automatically for the playoffs. A lot of schools like the geographic matchups because they keep costs down but there has been criticism about the fairness of hosting games.
