I don't subscribe to recruiting services like some of you guys, but a friend of mine, who is a Ole Miss grad said Frederick Smith had a son who plays QB for a Memphis School (Briercliff?) but actually lives in Olive Branch. Apparently the boy is a good enough QB to have been invited to play in the Army All-Star game and is being recruited by lots of schools including Ole Miss, Auburn, Oklahoma and others. My friend said he thought the Smith kid would go to Ole Miss (Sean Tuoey must have adopted another hot Memphis prospect).

My question is does anyone of him and did UT try to recruit him??

Scout lists Cannon Smith as a 2* QB commit for Ole Miss who also had offers from Tulane and Memphis. Rivals also gives him 2*. He transferred from Christian Bros. in Memphis to Olive Branch, Miss HS. He is listed as the #70 QB. There is no indication that he was ever interested in UT or vice versa. He committed to the Memphis Tigers in May 2006 but reopened his recruitment in November after being selected as an Army All American. The Army AA selection committee chairman, Zach Marolda, called him 'the most underrated QB in the country." All of the other QBs who are participating in the Army AA Bowl are 4-5* except for Phil Simms' son, Matt, who is 3*. Cannon's father is Fred Smith, chairman of the board for FedEx.

Thanks, VHB for the info. But our luck he turns out to be another Chad Pennington!!

BTW, my daughter attends Ole Miss. Maybe I will be able to figure out how to crash Fred's tailgate tent in the grove if Junior goes to Oxford!

A 2-star ranking by rivals is going to the Army All-American game. Wow, could rivals have missed the boat on this kid? Or did he get an invite based on who his daddy is?
