Holy crap does this kid have som nasty stuff. A CG 1 hit shut out against a pretty good (and gay) BoSox lineup. He made people looks stupid out there and he just turned 21.

I almost drove off the road laughing today when I heard a guy on the radio talking about Hernandez and he tried to be cool and shorten his name a la "A-Rod" and ended up saying "F-Her". :lol:

Only a third of an inning for him tonight before leaving with tightness in his elbow... gave up 3 runs before that.

I was just writing about young pitchers in the Yankees thread awhile ago, and forgot to mention this year's possible example. 8 IP, 110 pitches in his first start; 9 IP, 111 pitches in his second. He comes out in the third start, has a 24-pitch inning in the first inning and has to leave with tightness in his elbow.

This is not rocket science. No 21-year-old whom your organization values at all should be throwing 100 pitches in a game. For every Clemens-like freak who can handle it, there are a dozen guys like Kerry Wood whom it ruins. We've all seen this movie way too many times before, haven't we?

Thats unbelieveable that he was throwing that many pitches this early in the season. I could see a stretch in maybe the middle of the season but this early.:no:

It's crazy. Once a guy is something like 27 or 28, relatively high pitch counts (100-120) don't matter as much, but there's overwhelming evidence that young pitchers are at risk. There's no reason to leave a 21-year-old pitcher out there for that many pitches in an April game.

The Mariners have put Hernandez on the DL now, and anounced that when he comes back, he'll initially have an 85-pitch limit. Gee, you think maybe you should've limited his pitches to keep him from getting hurt in the first place?

Staying in the AL West, Rich Harden is on the DL again. :wacko: I'd bet he has more DL stints than career victories.
