Just a comment on our two freshmen QBs. Trent Dilfer said on the Ainge radio show right around the NFL draft that both QBs were really good and would solid starting QBs, also that he was really surprised that they both signed with the same school. I took that to mean that QBs at their level usually don't want to go to a school knowing they will have to compete with a high level equal in the same class.

Some of you guys will get your panties in a wad over his next comment. Dilfer then said on just pure passing ability, all the throws with accuracy, that he would rate Tyler Bray in the top 7 or 8 QBs in the NFL. He did emphasis just pure passing ability, not reading defenses or game mgt.

This like times 1 million. Competition will make both of them better. The best one will win out. I also don't understand everyone thinking that all the other qb's will transfer once one is named the starter. Bama's backup qb Sims was once the #1 dual threat qb if I am not mistaken. He is a junior. Could have easily transferred and played elsewhere by now. Enjoy the ride. Better times ahead on the hill.

That Sims transferred back home to Virginia when he didn't get the job. The current Sims was highly recruited to out of Ga if I recall correctly. We tried to recruit him by saying he wouldn't see the field at Bama and we were pretty much right. He's just a mop up until the redshirt from Utah takes over.

He's a very talented kid. You don't get the opportunity to compete at the elite 11 camp if you're not. A lot of people on here don't realize he would've went in last week if it were not for a leg injury he sustained two weeks ago in practice. Dobbs will be good...maybe real good, but ferguson is the real deal. Both are better all around athletes than Worley.

Did any of them two win Gatorade National Player of the Year? I mean Worley won that out of 100,000+ other high school athletes.

Ferg is the man if he wasn't injured. Congrats for making the starting line up by default. Hope he does well unless next week. Other than that 1st string was handed to him.

I can't imagine either of them looking any better (or more composed) than Dobbs did when he entered the game.

If we win out with Dobbs, he will be our starter next season no matter what.

Not necessarily. If we struggle but win with Dobbs and Fergie hasn't been seen, Dobbs isn't a lock for next year. Until Fergie gets PT, it is an open competition between the 3 next year.

I know its JUST the recruiting sights, but wasn't Dobbs rated higher than RF?

This all the way.

Dobbs' very first college snap was against the #1 ranked team in the nation and also in their home stadium.

I personally thought he killed it. He handled himself well. Didn't seem nervous, scared, or pressured.

That alone gave me more confidence in our team and for the future.

I do like Ferguson as well. I like them both equally as QBs but seeing how Dobbs handled himself really has me hyped and hopes he gets to finish the season out to get more experience.

Peterman did the complete opposite. And don't even get me started on Worley. Worley is a good person but I personally don't like him as a QB.

Either way, things are finally starting to look up around here and it's about time:good!:

The difference between the first appearances by Dobbs and Peterman is obvious. You can only tell so much on the practice field.

There's many out there that will pull for Dobbs because he's black and many that will pull for RF because he's white but I'm sure the vast majority just want the best man up. I'm sure that like me, 99.9 pecent of VN doesn't really know either one personally to base a true opinion on whether they like them as a person or not. May just be Dobbs this year though since his redshirt is burnt and Peterman's close to being back. I think both will be excellent QB's from everything I've saw and heard. Hope they both stay as we will need them both. Have all confidence Butch will play who he thinks gives us the best chance to win now and down the road.

I know they both competed in the elite 11 and I am glad we have both. One of the two will ultimately transfer out unfortunately. My initial point is simply that Ferguson raised some serious eyebrows at the elite camp before he hurt his hand, AND was named Worley's backup (according to Jones) until his leg injury two weeks ago.........damn!

If he ever plays I hope Butch makes him wear sleeves. Those tattoos are embarassing to our program.

We've heard it a million times from Riley fans already. The truth is that there was no indication that it was the case. Both QBs were warming up during the injury at South Carolina. The cameras caught Riley and ran with it. They have always been listed as co-second/third string on every released depth chart.

Dobbs was Elite 11 too, FWIW.

Elite 11 field announced for Southern California QB showdown - CBSSports.com

I don't know if you watched the ESPN Elite 11 episode or not, but I was able to see it. DD was recruiting Riley at the time which drew me to watch it. Riley suffered a bad thumb injury the first day and competed well. See this Rivals report on both Dobbs and Ferguson. Rivals.com Football Recruiting - The Farrellys: Best and worst of the Elite 11. My point is simply this, with all the problems we have right now, we are BLESSED to have TWO guys out of 24 that were chosen to the Elite 11 competition on OUR TEAM. Why choose sides? Why argue? Lets support both these guys and hope that which ever one plays helps us to win some games soon!

All the hype and practices and showing up in camp doesn't mean a thing until the lights come on and the band starts playing. Do some of you not realize how many practice Hall of Famers there are out there? Give me the guy that sucks in practice, rolls out of bed with a hangover, and plays lights out and wins the game week in and week out.

What's with all this liberal bulsch?...everyone with unlimited internet access knows that we need to resolve this nonproblem!....NOW ...ON THIS BOARD!!!...safe from the prying meddling hands of coaches who are actually paid to address real problems....moment of silence...for Lou Reed

I am supporting both of these guys. I don't care if B. Veazey was wheeled out of retirement to take snaps under center as long as it gives us the best chance to win.

What I do take exception to is the "Fergs is the better QB and Butch is saving him for next year to take the job" BS. Head coaches DO NOT save players if they give you a substantially better shot of winning now.

Heres what I dont understand.. how do people assume Fergie is so much better then dobbs ? has anyone seen both play side by side in practice? Not being sarcastic.. being serious.. I know the kid broke his leg but IDK fellas, if Dobbs comes in and leads us to an end of season run (Similar to Bray's FROSH year) and wins a bowl game (Not similar to Brays Frosh year) he will more then likely be the starter next year on opening day.

Ferguson had a broken thumb and didn't compete on the final day of competition.

I know that. They were both Elite 11. The original poster said Fergy was better because he was Elite 11 and I pointed out that Dobbs was too.

Hope he plays both. At this point you are playing for the future. Give him and Fergy both reps and see who performs better over the last part of the season. No sense in having Dobbs play and not give Fergy reps to get meaningful game action under his belt. Have an honest competition in the Spring if they both play well this year. At least they will both have game action and experience.

All the media that do get to watch some of the practices have indicated multiple times that Ferguson seemed to have the strongest arm of all four, and seemed to get a little more work with the first team when Nate went down. I have no preference which one it is as long as they get the job done. Ferguson did win two state championships in HS, and was in a third. Then again, he may have had a bunch of good players around him.

I don't think you could call it hype for Ferguson. It's just there were small indications that he may have had a slight lead over Dobbs. He's been in a walking boot the last few days, but I don't know why. Look these two guys picked us, and I support both of them 100%. They both are probably better in the long run then Worley or Nate. No matter what happens the rest of this year, there will be a QB competition each year. Butch likes that.

I say we might see both Dobbs and Ferguson in each of the next four games. Let em go and let em grow. You gotta have 2 good quarterbacks to play our schedule.
