Fiat, however, is prepared to abandon a deal unless workers at Chrysler's North American plants agreed to match the lower labor costs of Japanese and German plants.

I wonder if they'd rather have a lower paying job, or no job at all. They have ~ 2 weeks to decide.

since this is an American labor union we're talking about, especially one that is used to getting it's way through intimidation, and good old fashioned political graft, I'm betting the individual workers are going to get screwed by the UAW standing on "principle".

The UAW negotiated lower wages at the Spring Hill Saturn plant before the first shovel of dirt was turned.
