As per ESPN College Basketball Rumors:

Bruce Pearl has added senior big man John Fields, who holds shot-blocking records at UNC-Wilmington, to the Tennessee roster.

Fields is leaving UNCW in the wake of coach Benny Moss' mid-season firing, which was followed by a lengthy and sometimes baffling hiring process that brought in Buzz Peterson. The forward was clearly not happy with how his time at the CAA school ended. "I just wanted to spend my last year winning, so that's why I decided to get out [of UNCW]," Fields told ZagsBlog.

Bruce Pearl may use Fields with Brian Williams in a platoon situation. Fields is a strong defensive presence, while Williams has some other attributes he can put to good use in the middle. In his assessment of the senior from the Bronx, GoVolsExtra.com correspondent Mike Griffith praised Williams. "Soft hands, great interior passer, good defensive rebounder," he wrote.

However the rotation pans out, Pearl has added the kind of frontcourt depth that any Final Four hopeful must have.

Since both players will be out of eligibility at the end of this season, Pearl and his staff are already looking to keep the middle stocked in 2011. According to GoVolsExtra.com, UT is chasing 6-foot-10 Michael Chandler and 6-foot-9 Tim Dixon, as well as 7-foot JuCo transfer Moussa Gueye. Pearl put to rest any fears that his team would start to grind out possessions instead of running and bombing from deep, saying "As long as they are worth one more point, we'll keep taking them."

I went to my first Tennessee football game in 1958, the loss to UC(UTC now) Since then I've never waivered in my love for Tennessee football. My first Basketball game in 1960 and again never waivered in my love for Tennessee basketball.
So many people try pit one against the other and I fail to see the need to do it. With the resources and facilities we have for both programs there's no reason why we can't excel in both. Tennessee basketball has waited a long time for Bruce Pearl and I hope he's here for a long time. Given time, I have faith in Coach Dooley to turn our football program around. Great things are on the way for both programs and I can hardly wait to see it.:clapping:

See, I'm just a bigger fan of basketball than football. It's not even a team vs. team thing.

I can't wait to see Fields, Tobias, Mcrae and Golden in orange. With addition of the big guy this is the most exciting group of newcomers I've ever known for U T basketball.

This will make for a very solid post rotation and take out the weak links we would have faced with Pearl and Woolridge being heavily in the mix
